If you are talking about General Chemistry at HS or early college level, it will help to have a solid understanding in algebra but by no means you need to be an expert. Don't get me wrong, General chemistry is math intensive but its nothing you can't refresh (considering you have passed your algebra course with "B" or better) in couple hours. But if you are struggling with basic math skills, chemistry can be challenging for you. I would say about 30%~40% of General Chem involves math but majority of it is science of its own.

If you are talking about Organic Chem or Bio Chem, importance of math becomes much less significant.

I hated math all my life but I teach Chemistry at Junior College along with other private institutions now. So, if you are concerned about taking Chem due to less than perfect math skills, don't be discouraged. I think success in Chem all comes down to how much sheer hours and effort you devote to it. Good luck on your endeavor.

My personal experience honey...I got 50% in Math 30 (barely), and 85% in Chemistry 30. So, no, you definitely do not need to be good at math to do well in chemistry. I hate math with a passion, but somehow found Chemistry quite interesting. All you have to do is make sure you go to class and if you have ANY questions at all, ask your prof or teacher for help right away before you fall behind. It is when you fall behind that it becomes deadly. I also found that doing a lot of practice questions (for the equations) helped a whole lot! Good luck!

Chemistry does indeed require a lot of mathematic knowledge. The more you know, the easiest chemistry will be for you. Most of the math in chemistry in math is algebra. In fact, one of the pre-requisites of the chemistry class at my school is that "you must have completed algebra with a "B" average.
