for a civillian to carry a stun gun in the state of New York?
Is there any kind of license or permission I need to have?

Im not some trigger happy lunatic!! But i work late hours and sometimes have to come home a lone at night i have been mugged several times twice at knife point and once at gun point, i wouldnt want to carry a gun i sort of thought a stun gun would be less lethal!

It is illegal, and you would have to get a permit to carry a handgun in New York, which takes
forever. As far as the silly little ideas like Hairspray in the eyes, These kind of ideas come from people who have never been endangered by anything larger than a Rat Terrier. Most people who work with serious criminals, as I do, will tell that would really make them mad maybe, but stop them, NO. Mace is the best option for non lethal defense, but talk to a police officer and make sure it is a quality product and how to use it. My best suggestion would move to a safer area
As far as some of the peoples responses in Answers. I carry a gun, legally, and if robbed I plan to overreact. When you rob someone with a deadly weapon, you lose your right to life. As for the good people of New York being insulted, They have the strictest gun laws in the Nation and one of the highest crime rates. Switzerland has mandatory gun ownership of automatic weapons (check it out) and an extremely low crime rate. Maybe the problem is the people and our lax criminal justice system

I have worked for the PD in OKlahoma for several years and as far as I know carrying a stun gun in any state is illegal. You need to call the PD and ask just to be 100% sure but I don't see any reason why it would be legal. If your worried about protecting yourself try mase! Or if you want to get extremely serious and if your terrified get a permit to carry a weapon! Hope I helped !!!

15-a. "Electronic dart gun" means any device designed primarily as a weapon, the purpose of which is to momentarily stun, knock out or paralyze a person by passing an electrical shock to such person by means of a dart or projectile.
15-c. "Electronic stun gun" means any device designed primarily as a weapon, the purpose of which is to momentarily stun, cause mental disorientation, knock out or paralyze a person by passing a high voltage electrical shock to such person.
Article 265.01 Criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. A person is guilty of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree when: (1) He possesses any firearm, electronic dart gun, electronic stun gun ***; or ***

You live in the LIBERAL state of NEW YORK ,it is against the law for you to do anything but submit ,surrender .
You must be kind to the poor misunderstood criminal , who is robbing and raping his way thru reform school.
They have rights and you must not infringe on the rights of the criminal , after all they vote and vote often .

Why on earth would you want to carry a gun? it seems insulting to the good citizens of New York. Do you trust yourself not to over react in any given set of circumstances. I hope that it is illegal.

if you were in england it would be entirely illegal, stun guns are prohibited and you need permission from the secretary of state to carry one

hair spray in the eyes is very effective at putting an attacker down for a few seconds and hairspray isnt illegal to carry

If you were in the UK were you know you should be you would have your very own personal protection officer, who does carry a gun.

not sure if it's against the law there. although, I'm pretty sure you can't carry one in Canada. mace might be an option though.
