Well you are 18. You can move out whenever you like.
Just tell them there is a opening to live closer to school and you're thinking about taking it. Ease them into the idea. Don't be like "LOOK im leaving. DEAL WITH IT"

If they're footing the bulk of the bills you need to be smart enough not to look a gift horse in the mouth. Start spending your week-ends at your friends houses if you want to party. College life is too expensive to turn your back on the financial support you get from your folks. Do you have an Aunt or Uncle that lives close by that might be able to offer you a safe haven if you party too much and don't want to deal with your folks? On your own at 18 is costly...be careful.

Sorry, but if your parents are footing the bill, or any major part of it, you are just going to have to tell them the truth (the whole truth, with the partying and all) and see what they say. If they say it's okay to move out but that you'll have to pay your own way entirely, then they have every right. If you live in the U.S., generally, your parents are legally responsible for providing you with food, shelter, and clothing until you are 21. But all bets are off if you willingly move out because at 18 you alone are responsible for your debts.
Honesty is usually the best policy in any family relationship. If they have always been honest with you, then you owe them nothing less.

I moved out the day I turned 18, but of course I warned my mother that I was going to. Just sit your parents down and let them know you are thinking about finding a place of your own because you want your own place. Tell them you would love the help finding a place. So that they will feel involved. When you find a place you are interested in ask them if they will go to check it out with you. That's what I did and it made the transition alot smoother.

Will just add one thing. Pick a good time, and explain your plans adult to adult. Don't wait till some dispute has you acting like child. There will be less residency if they see their adult daughter becoming independent. Maybe one has been eying your room for computer area. Hows that for ice breaker. Could you use an extra room. If main reason for moving out is to increase party time reconsider your decision, if you don't want to flush college.

If you don't think you can make it on your own why are you moving out? There is alot of responsibility living in the real world. Stay with your parents until you are certin you can handle it out there. You can't mooch off of your parents forever!!!! It is a ruff world out there.

Sit them down and explain to them the situation! Parents never want their kids to move out so it will be hard on them but try to be understanding and involve them, they will soon come around.

you should sit them down, tell them the advantages of living nearer to school and convince them that you won't "party" all the time. you can also tell them you will visit them often.
