I believe proper punctuation and spelling make people easier to understand. However, you have to realize that not everyone has the access to learning the way others do. If it's legible, I'll usually get over my pet peeve and try to respect the person regardless. I do not possess perfect grammar either.

One thing that bothers me is improper use of questions marks in the occasional trivia question. For example, if a trivia question is structured like "Name the actress who played Kira in the movie Xanadu?", it looks to me like it's implying a tonality of, "NAME her? I have some doubt as to whether that's feasible." "Name", in the context of the question, is a *command*, and commands don't take question marks.
Another variant I recently discovered is: "This Alicia Keys song was featured in the movie Hollywood Homicide?" Again, this implies a tonality different from what I'm sure the writer of the "question" intended--in this case, a tonality of, "It WAS? I'm surprised at that." The "question" would be far better written with a period at the end instead of a question mark because it isn't really a question at all--it's a statement of fact.

When? Never. Most people just don't care about spelling or grammar. It's sad. They give in to "tiping lyke dis". It really grates on my nerves. The AOL-kiddie-speak bugs me, too.
tattoomeats: About its and it's: you only use 'it's' when you can put the words 'it is' in the word's place and the phrase/sentence still makes sense. Such as: It's a wonderful day. It is a wonderful day. And: Give the dog its toy. "Give the dog it is toy" doesn't make sense. Does that help?

I agree with that! That annoys me as well when people don't use correct English.

There are plenty that annoy me. It is often not their fault though, they're perhaps just waiting to be taught correctly.

When Yahoo goes with word's spell and grammar check. Think most know when to use there and their. Find myself iffy on other two.
