From these horibble wars I am learning so much more about Muslims. The American Govt had done so much to scare us for years about Muslims, but I am realizing we are not all that different.

When I was in college I had a classmate who was Muslim American she still is and is very successful and kind. She told me that her mother was orginally a devout Catholic and had converted to the Muslim faith to marry her father. They all live a very traditional Muslim life in America. I did not thing this was compatable, but now after learning more about the Muslim faith and growing up in the Catholic faith I realize that there are many things that could be in common with books and beliefs and values if the Catholic person is very tradional and enters the Muslim faith.

Is this a correct asumption? Her parents are happily married to this day. He mother has made a sucessful conversion and the children are all devout Muslims. I am not sure if that is correct terminology.

Am I understanding things correctly? Does this make sense?

I am not looking to convert I am looking to understand. I am happlily in a relationship and happy with my faith. I am just trying to understand. I respect all people. I do not like extremist people. Catholics have a bad history of being extremist and I also do not approve of cults. I am just trying to understand other cultures. I respect and love all people.

Thank you all for the information. No I am not interested in looking at oposition sites. I do want to hear from practing Muslims. The only other people I will listen to are moderate christians who have gone to seminary and studied religion in a comparision type structure. Not the fundamental christians but academics. I am not looking to hear mis-information. I would like to hear the information from practing Muslims in the USA and outside of the USA. I really would rather that others do not post on my posts unless they are offering tollerance. I am educated and can quickly detect an intollerant site. I think I need to know more Muslim women at home on a friendship level to understand and spend more time with friends.

You are right, dear. Muslims & Christians have many things in common, the US government doesn't want the Christian people understand this, so they make our differences big, and try to show Muslims bad, with no culture and.....
But people who have visited some good Muslims in their life, like you, don't have the same belief!
God bless you & anyone who's looking for reality!

Yes adobeprincess, it is true there are many things common between Islam and Christianity, there is a lot of ground for understanding. But an understanding between the east and the west is not in the best financial interests of the western governments. they forever need proxies and stooges in the oil-rich Muslims countries to supply them with oil at a price of their choosing.

As you yourself have expereinced first hand, Muslims are human beings just like yourselves, who go to school, work hard at jobs, look after their parents when they are old and their children when they are young.

Muslims also beleive in Jesus Christ, not as God or son of God but as an honored Prophet of God. There are many common grounds and yes, there isn't much 'switching' to do from Christianity to Islam.

Thank you for being one of the rare voices of moderation and understanding in this chaotic racist forum.

Are you thinking of marrying a Muslim? If so, then do whatever it is you need to do to be happy. If not, what's all the fuss about?
We're all humans. The only thing really seperating us are the crazy man made religions that do nothing but cause heartache, destruction and ruination. Take your pick, all organized religions operate pretty much the same way. A happy marriage is the luck of the draw. You either align pleasantly or you don't over time. All religions do is keep you in an unhappy marriage.

thanx for being supportive. and as u have got to know that both religions teach the same message. judaism, christianity and islam are all abrahamic religions and they all beleive in worhipping ONE GOD. but differences arose and they all went their seperate ways.

to understand islam, u first need to know the Quran. there is no better book that will give u an insight about islam other than Quran. Quran means - critereon to judge between right and wrong. it is a book of guidance and not rules.
