Pulling a 7500 pound trailer with a 1/2 ton suburban is marginal at best. Have a compentent mechanic check out your cooling system, transmission etc. The mountain passes should scare you.

I guess it depends on what route you plan on taking - where you are coming from, where you are heading, etc. I wouldn't suggest going through Sonora Pass, but entering CA from the 15 is OK (if you're traveling to SoCal , as well as the 5 (from Oregon). The 80 is OK through the Sierras, and is totally beautiful. The highway is well-maintained. As long as you aren't traveling in winter you'll be OK. Just make sure to watch out for your car overheating! (I usually hate traveling over the grapevine into our out of LA the most!)

Nothing you can do about it; travel slow, don't worry about anyone behind you (if there's two lanes), practice if you're that nervous. You'll be fine. Have a great trip!!!

One other thing, try not to do the passes when it's windy. Drive slower if that's the case. You will do great and your trip will be wonderful!!!
