I've always been of the belief that what you ate was more important that what you put on your hair. Make sure your diet contains enough protein and fat of the right kinds, and your hair and nails should stay healthy.

That said, I use quality shampoo and conditioners (Nexxus and Paul Mitchell products, primarily), but love Suave hair spray. FWIW my hair is long and chemically processed, and I use a hair drier and straightening wand regularly...plus, I'm middle-aged (a point where for many of us girls hair becomes dry and brittle). Still, it remains one of my best features.

Don't be afraid of whole milk and butter, just be prepared to take the stairs instead of the elevator when you can, and have healthy hair. :)

Pantene shampoo is dodgy. ignore that post.. it just puts a heap of silicone in your hair.

PPS Hair Lacquer is the best hairspray, but it doesnt leave the crunchy/yucky feel.

Hairspray doesn't damage your hair if it's held far enough away from the head, the aerosol can do damage if it's really close to it.

Schwarzkopf Sillouette is also pretty good.

Hairspray, mousse, just about anything you put onto your hair to "hold" it isn't good. But it's just a fact of life that we have to use these products to maintain a decent hair-do. Just remember to use hot oil treatment and strip treatments to remove all the residue and to restore hair.
