Anyone who has followed Cotto closely knows that although he has managed to come out on top everytime so far, his chin is rather suspect. I've seen him almost get knocked down in about 3 of his last 5 fights. From the people he fights he looks as if he is ducking the power punchers to lengthen his career. I think the pressure and intensity of Hatton would give Cotto a lot of problems.Cotto is one of the most composed boxers out there but Hattons in-your-face approach would take Cotto out of his comfort zone. Plus Hatton never lets up and even though I don't think he has the same skills I think Hatton wins it on heart with a late TKO or decison. Either way I would love to watch this match up!

You're absolutely right, it would be a great fight but in my opinion very lopsided. Catto is just the better boxer all the way around. Hatton's game plan is to trap you on the ropes and use his head to keep you there just as he did in when he fought Kosta in England, besides the referee helping him out by not cautioning him one time for holding or using his head. Ricky's biggest mistake was coming to America to show his boxing skills, he's very one dimensional as proven in his last fight at "The Garden" sure he throws over a 100 punches per round and when he was fighting at the lower weight he had some power. Great power? No, but his overall number of punches would wear a guy down. I like to watch Hatton fight and he seems like a very genuine guy outside of the ring too, but Cotto is to strong for him and he is use to getting hit by guys at his weight division and yes getting off the canvas to finish his fights. I think Cotto would out box him for 6 to 7 rounds before the referee stops the contest due to cuts and swelling over and bellow Hattons eyes (see Hattons last fight to see what I'm talking about). Thanks for a great question Sanjoman13!

Miguel Cotto would win. I feel that Ricky Hatton is severly overrated, as evidenced by that fight with Kostya Tzu where Tzu threw in the towel. I believe that someone fixed that fight--Kostya Tzu would have kicked his *ss.
so, Cotto v. Hatton? My money is on the latino fighter everytime.

i'll tell you what, that fight on the surface would look like a candidate for Fight of the Year. i was high on Hatton for a while, but he looked very vulnerable against Luis Collazo. Hatton's got one of the best chins in boxing right now, and Cotto is one of the hardest punchers at that weight class. i would love to see them both put on the extra pounds and fight at 147. the early prediction would have to lean towards Cotto, but would anyone really be surprised if Hatton caught him off guard and knocked him down? the answer is no....but all things considered, i'd say Cotto by decision in a GREAT fight.
