When you pour coca cola in a glass of ice and it has a lot of fizz... why does putting your finger in it make the fizz go away so fast? Also, have you ever seen bartenders put a finger in a glass as they are pouring/dispencing coke?

It breaks the surface tension. Also the heat causes the fizz to die down.

As for the bartender, I wouldn't care honestly because alcohol kills germs and I would have alcohol in anything I order at the bar. I'm pretty laid back and have a good immune system though.

i think it works because of your body temp. that's why the fizz lasts longer on ice.....when you pour coke into an empty glass it isn't as bad.

Nope, never saw a bartender do that - if i did, it wouldn't be my drink tho -- at the bar, i do apple martinis! :P

Rinse the ice first .... then pour. No fizz.

because the oils on your finger break the surface tension on the bubbles...to increase this effect, rub your finger on your nose or behind your ear. and yes, it is very unsanitary....better to just wait it out
