I don't think it's because of overheating because it sometimes goes black after a few seconds or 30 minutes. The sound still works and the image sometimes comes back. What could be the proble? How much would it cost to get it repaired.
Thanks,
Jes

To take an educated guess at this and a guess is about as good as it gets then here goes---- The fault description closely fits a common fault with all CRT TV sets , here's what to do , if you can peer through the back cover and see the Tube neck there should be a light glowing inside !! if you can`t see the light then the fault is probably dry or bad joints on the tube neck board that supply filament voltage to the tube, just needs re soldering, good luck !

that condition is caused by an "intermittent" connection.its takes skill and a lot of knowledge of finding the actual point of the bad connection.i would advise you not to poke around the inside of your tv, because a lot of capacitors in there will surely give you a nasty electric shock, even if you turn off the tv and disconnect it from the wall outlet.call a reputable tv technician and ask for an estimate to have it repaired or send it to a tv repair shop, or just buy a new one.i'm a tv repair instructor for 17 yrs, and i know a lot of people who got electrocuted messing with their tv sets.
good luck

I have the same problem with the tv going black. I was still listening last night and then it came on again. Today, it started immediately. I rang to get a quote to get it fixed and the chap said just buy a new one. is it that hard to fix?
