It is recommended that you breast feed infants for the first year. As for what else your child can eat, he should be ready for fruits and veggies (baby food) and could eat Cheerios as well. At 8 months my son was eating scrambled egg, Cheerios, and other Gerber finger foods. Along with his cereal mixture and jarred baby foods. It is best to check with your ped first to make sure your son is ready for this next step.

as long as you like
the longer the better but you need to see how you are doing
are you losing wieght or gaining? how is that making you feel ?
at the end of the day you should evaluate the way you feel about yourself and how your baby has been then take a week off the first couple of days are going to be painful for you and stressful for you depending on the dependacy your son has on you (believe me when i tell you i had it bad from the first time i tried to wean but luckly i stayed strong and in two days he was like booby what ?) so be strong also keep on evaluating and see how much things have changed if you like it stay if not then go back your milk will start right back up agian believe me lol

and not in the best places either lol
i breastfeed for a year and 1 month and decided i needed to treat myself right so i can feel confident for my son and that way he can grow up looking forward with confidence

If he'll eat other grains, I'd do away with the nasty baby cereal. If he can handle Cheerios or a bagel or waffle or something to gnaw on, then I'd go with that instead.

Keep breastfeeding as long as possible! It's the perfect food and it will also fill in any gaps in his nutrition. He should nurse *at least* 12 months!

Breastmilk or formula is supposed to be the main food source for the first year. Always breastfeed first, and then top them up with solid food if they're still hungry. God Bless

he can have regular food now, as long as its NOT DAIRY and as long as u mush it up.. before my son was born, i bought a food processer for 25 bucks off of (www.onestepahead.com) and made all my own baby food, like i cooked carrots until they were really soft and grinded it up.. or put pasta in there and grounded it up but it depends, is he picking things up yet? ask ur doctor, he should be able to tell you.

Neither of my kids would eat baby cereal. As long as he is breastfeeding, don't worry too much about what else he is eating as long as it is nutritious.
