I will not be using it for any professional photography. I would prefer a camera with more than 3x optical zoom.Is 3x zoom enough or should I go for more.
Also need opinion about Olympus digital cameras.

Olympus SP-350.
I highly recommend that one.
For a cam of this price (you can get one for $300) it really delivers good quality.

8.0 Megapixel
Hot shoe.
2.5 inch color display
and oh so much more. haha

Even thought you're not looking into professional photography, this cam has the option to attach various lenses. (Despite that it's not an SLR.)

For non profesional photography .

Yes , a 3x optical zoom is good , but do concentrate on the DIGITAL ZOOM also. The digital zoom should be good as this gives results thats mind blowing. Something which I cannot explain with the help of alphabets.

Its better to atleast go for a minimum of 4mega pixels, 3.2 is now dated and its not worth investing in it.

Though the output for a normal 4x6 print will be 99.999% same on a 3.2 and 4 MP, however if you decide to blow-it-up then you will realise the difference.

Lastly, I haven't tried Olympus but I believe it will be good, I have used a canon and its good. My advice is to see all the brands and then take your pick based on

1. What you comfortable with in terms of clicking at .
2. best value for money
3. The company name ( you pay a premium for this )

All the best !
