I have yet to ask but I'm afraid she's gonna say no because ....well, I don't have a reason but most girls say no, don't they?
I like this girl as a friend and I like her company at work and I'd like to hang out with her outside of work. How should I, casually, ask her for her number?

Make sure she has no husband first.

I think it's because there's nothing casual about asking a girl for her number, or asking a girl that you work with for a date.

I have no answer for that. I'm very shy myself. But I know what's going on. It's just not casual, not normal, not easy, not comfortable, and most of the time it seems inappropriate.

The only thing I could suggest is that you show her that you are interested in her by the way you act and what you say, and respectfully, and honestly tell her that you want to hang around with her. She will probably give you a nice answer rather than saying "No I have a boyfriend."

Hi sweetie..First of all to everyone who wants to read this answer..Men and woman are both scared to get a rejection..It is normal for you to feel somewhat scared..Or even nervous doing asking for it. If you know much about her..Make sure she is single..With that..Go do it as a friend! Say something like....I really enjoy your company..Hey...(new movie) comes out (day it comes out)..You want to go catch it together if you don't have anything else to do that night? If she says sure.Or she will see..Give her YOUR number..Then tell her to give you a call to let you know..If she calls you will know she is liking you too..Don't freak out if she doesn't call that night or even the next day..Give a a little while..You will know then if you should presue her anymore then..Take care..Remember just to try and sound casual..Practice in a mirror!

Just tell her that you think she is a really cool and sweet person and then ask that if it would be okay if you got her number so that maybe you two could talk and maybe schedule a time to go hang out somewhere.

Because they make it hard for us! I'd wait until she's with some friends. Cut into their conversation, excuse yourself, introduce yourself and ask for her number. It'll show lots of confidence and If she says no, it's not the end of the world but if she says yes... =)
