It usually costs about $300, prices vary geographically.

Technically, most policies say you need to add LICENSED DRIVERS. Most companies want to add you, AND PICK UP THE EXTRA COST, as soon as you get your permit. But a FEW companies have their policies written to say, if you don't list the drivers in the household, they aren't covered.

So the answer to the second question is, call your agent, ask them anonymously, AND HYPOTHETICALLY, when you have to add a driver to the policy - at the time of the permit, or the license.

hrm... I live in Alabama and I took drivers ed but, thats what school offers to kids. I had my permit and other than drivers ed I drove with my parents. I didn't take a training class. I passed my road test in 1 day. I didn't pass it the first time because the lady said she could tell I was really nervous so I got another chance. I think they do offer training classes but, I don't know anyone that has taken one. Now they have driving school (think thats what its called) but, ppl. take that if they get tickets or in trouble driving to clean there record (or from getting points).
