i just wanted to know the plusses and minuses of this stuff... i hear how ridiculous it is but then again i got this dog she has all fo the hard stuff (basically) of kids like potty training and waking up in the middle of the night. so why not the fun stuff like picking outfits? and i just wanted to know if anyone had like evidence that it hurts dogs or something before i spent a bunch of money on them. :)

My nieces sued to have a Chihuahua and a Pomeranian that they dressed as babies, and took for walks in a baby buggy..the dogs LOVED it, and couldn't wait to get dressed for their outings..

Cruel? I hardly think so..Silly? yes...but the dogs and girls sure shared a lot of fun..Dogs have a great sense of humor...and don't mind being silly..

.what IS cruelty to me, is putting a dog in the backyard and only keeping food and water to it, and rarely offering it companionship..

Putting clothes on dogs is fine. Just make sure the clothes aren't too constricting, and you aren't putting a sweater on in the middle of the summer. My dog refuses to walk in the rain, so I got him a raincoat, and now he's fine. Some dogs with short hair get cold very easily, and it is a good idea to put on a sweater, or a little doggy jacket. Some people even buy shoes so the pavement isn't too hot on their dog's feet. It's not silly, it just shows that you care.

as long as the outfits are comfortable and don't interfere with the dog's movement, there is nothing wrong with them. as long as your dog is small (like a poodle or a yorkie) the dog probably won't mind. now if you have a pittbull or a german shepherd, the dog would probably die of embarassment.

the dog will let you know how they feel when you put the outfits on them.... pay attention to what your dog tells you. also, if you make fun of it, the dog will be embarassed.

have fun!

Ask a vet

I don't think it HARMS them by any means, just probably makes them an outcast because every time they go around dogs who aren't dressed those dogs probably make fun of their fashion sense........

HA HA HA HA Sorry I am totally kidding of course!

I think its cute... .but I won't put my dogs through the torture... Although I did get our chihuahua a sweater last winter because he would shiver and shake everytime he went out. And My step mom had a cockerspaniel that hated water and she had a rain coat.....

depends on how the dog is used to it, plus if the weather is too hot. Don't use anything with elastic, or anything tight, it will dig in their skin. If you use clothes on your dog, only do so for a short time, It could damage thier skin, and hurt them. Dogs have thier own coat. Just remember that. good luck!

My 2 Shih-tzus wear clothes and they don't mind it one bit. We live in an apt. so they go out for three 20 min walks a day and when the grass is wet (like in the morning) it keeps their bellies cleaner and dry and when it's raining their little raincoats keep them nice and dry too. My little female tzu actually gets excited and jumps up and down on my legs in front of me and practically jumps into her little outfits on her own...........hehehe.

The Advantages of Clothing Your Dog Better
There is more to clothing than protection from weather extremes. Day in and day out, your dog can benefit from the protection of clothing, just as much as do you. Good clothing can help your dog better adapt to seasonal changes and enjoy more time outdoors, while costumes and sportswear can add fun to holidays and events. Also, good clothing will…

Warm your dog
Keep him dry
Protect his paws
Keep his coat clean
Reduce insect bites
Repel fleas & ticks
Cool him in hot weather
Protect him against sunburn
Keep him safer on the sidewalk and on the water

I would only buy one outfit and see how your dog reacts!!
My dachshunds go crazy trying to remove clothes/costumes!
Now I do it at Halloween for just a brief moment to show them off!!

I have chihuahuas and they are thin coated dogs. They often wear sweaters in the cooler weather and if they are going to wear something to keep warm why not wear something cute?

Putting clothes on dogs is like animal cruelty... Because the dogs do not like it... as you can see by the look on their faces.
