First off i would like to say congrats on your new little baby. Dispite what everyone on here is saying you can start training now. We start training out puppies at 6wks when they are fully weaned and on solid kibble. We make them sit and wait for us to put down the food. Teaches them paticence and to obey. Puppies are little balls of what can i do to please you espically pits or any of the bully breeds. Not only do you need to train her in basic obidence but also dont forget to socialize the heck out of the dog once she has had at least 2 sets of shots. Take her everywhere you go have her meet all sorts of people and other animals. For sit you just need a treat and hold it a little above the nose and then down at an angle and its a natural sit posture. and say sit. then good girl. and with down put the treat nose level and then down to the floor and away and say down at the same time. Remember at 6wks they only have about a 3-5 min attention span so do it when you go to put her food down. Try to start with 2-3 times a day and then everyweek up it 1 time. so next week do it 3-4 times a day. and stay consistente with it. If you give her in inch she will take a mile. When she play bites grab her muzzle and squeeze lightly and get in her face and in a stern voice say NO gental or easy. I do agree with getting a crate but dont just leave her in their and only take her out to go potty and eat you need to spend time with her. And if you have a family everyone needs to get in on it so she know this is her family as well and she has to listen to everyone other wise you will run into problems cause she wont listen to anyone but you and thats not good. If you need anything else please feel free to email me and i can help. Best of luck Kelly

It's great that you're trying to train your puppy, especially since she is a pit bull. If you do not do training, she could become a very aggressive dog. First, remember not to get frustrated, it takes a long time to train, especially at such a young age. You may want to try using treats as an incentive when she does what you want. I rescued my dog a little over a year ago, and started training right away. He picked up on house training right away, but he is just now coming around to sit, stand, speak, and those types of commands. It may be a good idea to go somewhere like petsmart, just to pick up some tips on how to train. Good luck.

being six weeks old, well...... SHE IS STILL A PUPPY. Its going to be tough to do anything but play and rub. You should wait another 3-5 weeks before starting any real obidience training. Some pups pick it up sooner but most usually go at 10-12 weeks is a good startign point. It doesn't take too much time to train them in the basics. Also, the mouthing or biting, needs to be stopped sooner than later. You can let them slightly nibble you but if you feel any real pressure, stop her instantly. Also, you can train your dog yourself. Don't pay to have anyone else do it for you or with you. Take the time to learn and practice with her. Also, to reward her when she does well, don't use treats from a store or pieces of kibble. Cut up some apples into small pieces or soem kind of fruit (NOT GRAPES) in small pieces as "good job rewards". Right now, let her play, you play too.. wait a couple weeks before getting into official training and expect some things to move faster than others. Go online and find proper training techniques.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aL1J8
A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

I've heard that trying to train before 12 weeks of age is pretty much pointless. And also when she does come around to that age, don't repeat the command over and over again, or else they will think they have to hear you say it three times or however many or will just get confused and lose their attention. (Ex. say "sit" once, if it doesn't happen, try again in a few minutes.) I would buy books and try a training class that has a money back guarantee as well.

play biting is very normal for all pups, not just pittbulls. however, if a puppy is not trained not to bite when it plays, it can create problems later on. teach your puppy not to bite you, there are several ways to do this. you can screech/yelp every time she puts her teeth on you (like another puppy would do if she hurt them) and that works pretty well if you are consistent. another way is to grab her scruff (the loose skin on the back of her neck) at the same time as you grab her muzzle and tell her "NO BITE" in a firm tone. don't scare her to death or hurt her at all, just make it unpleasant each time she puts her teeth on you.
you have to be consistent... either she is allowed to bite you or not. you can't have it both ways.. the rules must be the same all the time in order to be fair to the puppy.
regular training can be started in about 10 weeks... after a puppy is fully vaccinated at 4 months, it is safe to start a puppy obedience class (frequently called puppy kindergarten) which is good for basic commands and socialization.
good luck and enjoy your puppy!

She is still really young, pick up training at 5-6 months. First step should be relationship and house breaking, after that everything else will go easily. Once my lab hit 6 months it was like over night he didn't have anymore accidents, he learned how to shake his paw in three days and the learned how to "speak" in a week.
I am not sure SPECIFICALLY on pitts but I think age is what is most important

Six weeks is a bit young to expect to see training results. One of the first things the mother dog teaches her pups is who is boss. So I suggest that you learn how to train you pup to be submissive to you. Only then will tricks like 'sit', 'heel', walking on lease, etc. be easy.
Watch "The Dog Whisperer" on TV. The host always shows the first lessen in dog training and that is how to be boss, the leader of the pack. He said if you don't learn that, you can't train your dog.

The best thing for you to do is to go out and to buy a crate for her... keep her inside the crate at all times unless if your there supervising her. You must take your puppy outside as much as you can... use a word, like "Go potty" a bunch of times... when she finally goes pee/poop give her a huge praise and make it a big deal... She will think "Hey when I pee/poop outside I will get a reward"
When she goes potty inside of her crate or on the floor do not yell at her... that is the last thing you need... is to have a puppy being afraid of you... DO NOT use the news paper deal...

Your dog should be kept in a cage for 6-8 weeks. The only time you take it out of its cage is to do its job and excersize. Always on a leash. You do not play with it during this time out of the cage. No one and I mean no one else is to interact with the dog during this period. Only you feed it and walk it. Sounds mean but that's the first stage of bonding. The dog learns your the master during this time. When the training starts, this dog will be easy to train and listen to your every command as soon as it understands them. Check out dog training on the net and they will tell you the same thing.
