I have 2 computers in my house. This one has windows 98 which is okay. The one in my bedroom has windowsXP which I like. I have only one phone line and it was given to me. I went to do the recovery and didn't realize that they don't have the XP cd in all the material. So now it won't go into windows as I have nothing. Is there a sight that that I can download windowsXP recovery/reinstall to a cd or disk on this computer. Free if possible. Or am I gonna have to buy the XP at store and load it? I was trying to wipe all off of it and start fresh.

Most name brand computers will have a recovery partition on the hard drive which has the windows "cd" and all the programs installed so it is like it was when it was first setup.

you can call the company who built it and ask them what key you need to press during boot up to access it.

If you formatted the computer and wipped out the hard drive then you need to go and buy a new Windows CD, you can not just use another persons cd because each copy has to have a diffrent cd key to authenicate the copy of windows.

You can call the company who built the computer and ask for restore cd's it can be expensive but it's a good thing to have.

Compaq and Dell are good about supplying restore ecd's for their computers, only thing is the cd is only useful for THAT computer so you can't use it on another computer built by someone else.

and asking for something for free when it comes to software is piracy and is illegal, even tho i sympathize with you because i've had to buy an additional OS because of the same situation. But if you want to get the computer back up and running you will have to pay for something.

I hope this helps you out

If you have system recovery with XP somewhere on your computer (check start up, programs, accesories, or do a search) you hit do system recovery. If you want to savce your added folders and files and programs click where it says non-destruct ive recovery that was installed on your hard drive by your computer maker.

Sorry, but you should aways make a back up before you wipe your hard drive. Do you have a friend that might have a CD that you can use? IF you don't, then you will have to buy XP.

hmmm strange case.............. but if you still have the serial for the xp cd then you need to call up micorosoft and have them send you another one for free, but on the other hand there are other ways to do a system recovery without the disk
