I have sight hounds. they often do this..and their hair is VERY long and plush, so it can be an exasperating problem! if you find out any remedies, please let me know, so can I can pass it on! lol
As the greyhound person said, it is because of their anatomy..unusual way that they are built.

providing a vertical surface to lift a leg on can help as many only get the front when "squatting' in an open area, but some can miss a whole tree too (sigh). Peace and quiet help too as many get the front legs only when distracted and not concentrating on the matter at hand. but the only fullproof way is babywhipes at the door.

If there isn't any wound different than the licking, then welcome to the international of slightly neurotic canines. My canines does this countless situations a twelve months and creates a granuloma interior the comparable spot. it is something they do while under pressure, or bored, or disillusioned. My canines never looks surely under pressure, whether it is a worried habit she has. there's a medicine we use while this occurs, purely some drops on it two times an afternoon and then we ought to consistently save her from licking. as quickly because it heals she leaves it on my own for a mutually as. on the 2d, the call escapes me and that i'm no longer residing house to look, yet i might propose you communicate on your vet approximately it and spot what they say. it is a robust theory for them to make advantageous there isn't any subject below the exterior it is inflicting it too.

I had that problem with my Afghan. Some dogs just have bad aim......maybe put plastic on his legs when he goes out to pee?
Seriously, though, you might try to keep some "no-rinse" shampoo (it's usually a purple or blue liquid found in the pet shampoo section) by the door so you can clean his legs when he comes in.

What kind of dog is it? I have a grehound, and he does the same thing. Main reason being, because of his anatomy, it is uncomfortable to lift his long legs, sit, or lay down like a regular dog. greyhounds, danes, and other long dogs have similar bodies. or, he may just be lazy.

Who's legs is the dog pissing on? His own, or his owner? If it's peeing on it's own legs, it's a pup. Be surprised if it even lifts its leg! Like a lil boy, pisses all over the bathroom, and when they grow up, they just piss on the seat and floor! If it is pissing on its owner, its a dominate problem.

HAHAHA, that is funny. I would take it to the vet to see if it has a mental handicap. You can't train that behaviour away, the dog will think you are scolding him for simply using the bathroom. Maybe hold its ding a ling?
