lots of people DO care, but can't/ won't do anything about it. it's all a mind game. maybe if we closed down all the fast food places, we could make a difference in what we look like. Maybe if we didn't buy our kids PSP's and Nintendo's, we could allow them to run around outside like in the good-old-days (of course, with plenty of sunblock!!!). Maybe if we shopped for groceries a little bit smarter, we could get our kids accustomed to eating healthy snacks as opposed to junk food (chips, cookies, donuts, etc.). but nobody is doing that. we are ALL in control of our weight. we need to take our waistline back and get control of our lives.
Yes indeed!!!

The scary thing is that obesity is on the rise world wide. We've known about America for a while.
A LOT of people are fat and happy! We have food and choices and money and television -- this is certainly the Golden Era for human kind.
There are plenty of health issues ... but do we care? Contentment has kept us from feeling the need to scrabble for the next meal and so the survival instinct is dulled by a layer of cool whip and melted cheese.
When we say, "if I could just have one more bowl of ice cream, I'd die a happy man" .... we mean it!
It's all good. We are in a transistion period from having to labor all day to work that is tool oriented. Our lives are better and we are living on the fruit of our success. In time, our lives will stablize.
Remember the fun stuff in Back to the Future III? He's talking to the old west guys about the future and that they run for fun and health reason. Back then, they couldn't imagine running unless it was to a foe or away from an enemy. So .. I think it's just humankind in a transition phase.
We have make up, tattoos, high heels, collegen, liposuction, wigs, implants ... all kinds of things to make us look better (or more like everyone else) -- if being fat is an issue, we'll just shed a few pounds the easy way.
Cheers!

Trans-Fat has been eliminated at all restaurants in Chicago. More people are overweight in the U.S versus Europe. Alcohol consumption is also greater in Europe then in the U.S.
An argument could be made for children being if they're healthy, they're fine...
If I were the parent of a child I would first make sure they eat properly and stay in shape, if they're overweight then there could also be a medical reason..
Love is a given.
Peer pressure is definately a factor in obesity rates... because kids always compare themselves to people like Brittney Spears and become depressed.. depression should be more of concern then obesity.. could lead to other addictions..
Poverty is also a factor.. 1 in 8 American's are considered to be at Poverty level... Cheaper food is often the worst kind.. ...

I care about my health and my children's health and really anyone in my family's health. To that end, I jog at least 5 times a week and I take my 2 year old and my 4 month old in the jogging stroller with me while my 4 year old rides her bike. I am trying to teach my kids that exercise is a normal everyday thing that is good for them and is just as important as eating good foods. I also limit my kids sweets and we have fruits, veggies, cheese or yogurt for snacks.
I am a little overweight (having just had a baby) but for me the issue isn't really weight, it's health. So, my issue with my kids isn't weight but health. So, if my children were overweight, I would probably consult with their doctor. I care more about them getting enough exercise and a well balanced diet than I do about what they weigh.
It does make me mad though when I see overweight children being constantly fed treats by their parents. My neighbor's daughter is overweight and the mom is totally blind to it. The girl eats 3 or 4 hot dogs a day and I always see her with a bag of chips. I think it's just lazy parenting to feed your kids crap. That's not to say that your kids should never have a hot dog or some fast food, but they should only have it in moderation and not for every meal.

How do you "fix" an overweight child? I thought that you can only fix things that are broken. I don't consider an overweight child broken. I was overweight as a child and it had nothing to do with my up bringing. I was raised on baked food...as well as fruits and veggies. I use to sneak food in the night time after everyone was asleep. I was just plain greedy. My mom noticed and she worked with my doctor and I until they found out a more suitable way for me to adapt to my eating habits. I praise God for my mom and that doctor. I still struggle with my weight, but I can change if I really wanted to. All you need is the will power and the help of God. I use to weigh 325 Lbs, now I weigh 245. My goal weight is 175 and I will reach my goal, not because of the way society sees me, but how I see myself.

Your right about Obesity in this country. Its really getting out of hand I think. Its so easy these days to get carried away with the false hunger , and the bordom eater. I know this for a fact. Now there are some that have health issues that make them heavy. This I know as well. I would however love humans just the same.....P.S. I am working on helping myself and some in my family with eating problems that will be a problem in the near future...
No need to apologise. Its great to ask ...

If my kid was overweight, of course I'd still love them, but I'd try and help them lose weight so they can be healthier...and to save them the humiliation of being teased.
And I don't know about the majority of people, but I am concerned about being overweight, and I am doing something about it.

people who are genetically obese are the only people who have an excuse to be obese, everyone else it's just there lack of control, that is something that has not been taught to the children of my generation. There would be less drug addiction, less teen pregnancy, less drunk driving accidents, and less of all the bad stuff associated with crazy kids. Control is the issue not peer pressure or mental disorders, control. and it starts with the parents.

I don't think people understand the problem or the mechanism. Therefore, their beliefs regarding obesity are ill-informed and likely to be incorrect. So I guess I'm saying they don't realize they need to be very concerned about it. It's not that they get it and just don't care. They just don't get it.
Did you know there are now more obese people than there are starving?

No, I do not think anyone cares. If you get fat enough and you can not work the government pays for you. I would teach my children the values of staying in healthy shape so I would not need to fix him/her. I would love him/her the same and I would notice. I have said things to my sister about her children.
