Only Jews, Christians and Islamists have that type of holy war. It is their job, as they see it, to kill off all people, including small children, who don't worship in the exact same way as they do. This is the overriding message of the bible and quran, the chronicling of hundreds of sorties, or small military campaigns that end up with killing every man, woman and child in some village because those people are of a different religion. This is supposed to be 'holy' and beneficial to both God and the Jews, Christians or Islamists doing the killing.
Oh, occasionally, the girl children who are too young to have had babies are spared and enslaved, as they are considered to be docile enough for conversion.

You might call the Crusades a holy war, thus Christians have been involved in holy wars, but so far as I know it is not a part of the true teachings of any religion to make war right. Jews, in general, do not believe in fighting a war against those who do not agree with them. They only want to be left a small space to exist in peace. When Israel is attacked, much of what the Israelis do is to defend their country just as the United States retaliated because the country was attacked. This does not make war right. Those who believe in Jihad are extremist fundamentalists who think their way is the only way and anyone not agreeing is somehow an infidel. This is not the real teaching of Islam.
Extremists in any religion or any political belief do not reflect the whole of any peoples, and those of us who believe in peaceful co-existence, must reject the idea of holy war.

I think there have been few, if none, holy wars. There have been several war's that were made 'holy' by men to further their dreams of conquest/empire/money.
I would think that the only war that could be honestly called holy is the one you need to do to defend your country from an invading army, and even then, you're not allowed to do anything you want if you win.
War sucks big time, and I think everytime someone says 'let God guide this sword into my enemy's bowels' or anything similar, God is very, very disapointed and sad.
We never learn, we just pretend we listen and learn...

Are you talking about Muslims? Because Christians don't have Holy Wars. Jesus was a pacifist. Any war called "Holy" most certainly is not holy.

No war is holy. Life is holy. God is holy. Wars and people who make wars are unholy.
Just my opinion.
It's just one of those twisted terms that some people like to use to make bad stuff sound less bad. Like friendly fire, acceptable losses, peace-keeping force, etc.
