i often hear from the christians in my life that say they love me, but then continue on to tell me what is right and wrong in my life as often as they choose. i see this happen on yahoo answers all the time too.
i don't get it. in my book love and judgment can't coexist and jesus teaches to love your neighbor and not to judge one another. does passing judgement on another person have a different secret meaning that i don't know about? how do christians who do this justify this action?

declaring that something is right or wrong is judging. there's just no way around that.

oh yeah, AND i am a thinking adult not a child under someone else's authority needing guidance to get through life. i like my freedom and am not looking to be converted to someone else's way of thinking.

Christians don't judge. "God" or the Bible does it for them. It's a pathetic attempt to skirt responsibility for their own bigotry and intolerance. It's a child's game that only works on children and dolts. It's funny how they keep trying to pull it off on reasonable adults.

Your making an assumption that people are not to judge. And what is meant by that word. Are we as people allowed to look at someone doing drugs say, and tell our children "See that!? don't you do that!" Any reasonable person would agree. However, Did you not just make a judgment about that person doing the drugs? Of course you did! If that person is your child and your telling the other children not to do drugs. Would you still love that child but hate what he\she is doing?? So, yes someone could love you and know your doing wrong and try to correct you. Jesus also tossed the money changers out of the Temple. Did he love his neighbor at that moment? He, we, anyone could have judged what they were doing was wrong.
Time to rewrite your book.

To put it simple and true. You don't KNOW what the word "love" and "judge" means.
If you did, you would not have to ask this.
Get a Greek concordance and study. Don't take someones advise or opinion of it. Do it yourself and then YOU know.
Just to say this quick and not eat up space. "agape" love is 2 things. OK? You have love= interest for others before yourself.
Then "sacrificial love. Where you did just what Jesus did. "sacrifice". Too many people don't know the difference. If you don't know Greek, or have access to it, you can't know the difference.
Good Q*

This is not a question of whether these people are Christians or not. This happens in ALL religions. This is a question of their personal relationship with Jesus and their true convictions. Just because you do your "hail Mary's", or other works, and/or words, does not make that person a true follower of the Lord or His works. There are many people out there who are "false doctrines" that goes for churches as well.. That is a sin. Pick up your Bible and read it. That will answer any questions you have. If not, and you are not able to comprehend it....PRAY!! He will give you everything you need.

My answer would be that they are not good Christians to do that because God is the only judge and it says so in the Bible. A good Christian would refrain from judgments.

I have always wondered that question myself... I was always told that God is the one that passes judgement.. i know in some christians views that they dont see it as judging that they see it as giving out helpful advice in a more direct content of words.. to me it's still judging no matter how word it...

Christians are sinners too. We make mistakes, some of us learn from them, some of us continue to do as we please. Sometimes, telling people what is wrong in their life is not judgement, it is merely a way of trying to help.

it is justified by a selective deletion of various verses of the Bible... If you Ignore "Judge not lest Ye be Judged" you can justify anything.

They judge you so they can feel superior. They say they love you because they think that makes it ok to judge you.
On another note, did you ever hear anyone say "well, bless your heart!" Doesn't it sound like there's an implied ("you're so stupid") after that comment? Maybe it's just me, but it sounds so condescending!

I am a Chrisitan and have 2 sons who are very young. I love them very much and because I love them I discipline them and tell them what actions are right and wrong. Is this judging them or guiding them?
