When I was a kid, we used to run down to the beach at night and lay under the night sky and wish on falling stars. Me, my brother, and my little sister would stay out there for hours. I remember many times being woken up by my dad who would always have to carry my sister home. I loved that beach. I just found out it's an apartment building now. Do you have any similar stories you could share? How do you feel about it?

My paradise was just about every weekend in the summer from 1999-2002 on our 25 ft. sailboat. We'd spend 2-4 days on the bay. Hundreds of boats would surround us during the day. By nightfall not as many boats were around. The kids,my husband and I would fire up grill for dinner and watch the sunset. Then hubby and I would have 'our' time listening to mostly Bob Marley, having a couple of beers, after reading stories and putting kids to bed.

When my dad died in Sept. 2001, my mother-in-law in Aug.2002, I couldn't wait to get out on the bay to get away from it all. It was my escape from reality. Many nights we'd cruise down to 'our spot' on the bay. He knew exactly where he was going no matter what hour of the day/night it was. He was an amazing sailor/captain,with me as his 'first mate',kids were 'his crew'.(he bought us hats that said so.....LOL). Little did we know our best summer ever, 2002,would be our last.....paradise would be gone..... gone forever.

My husband got sick in June 2003,yet he was determined to get that boat in the water. He did in July. We spent the night at our slip and left for home next morning, he wasn't well. The boat never left the slip that year except to come home one last time. My husband was diagnosed, at age 44, with stage 4 lung cancer in August 2003. He passed in November 2003. He did make one final request..... some of his ashes be sent out to the bay..... our piece of paradise. I went, at sunset, the following summer to the exact spot our boat used to be. ( He had also said "Don't you dare put me out in the cold water, you'll have to wait until it gets warmer!...LOL)

Thank you for an opportunity to relive my paradise once again.

Wow, I wish my paradise would have been a beach. But I just hung out near the woods and by the river. And they are still there, but my whole neighborhood was 5 houses. Now there are like 25 houses around there. It's just not the same when I go and visit.

My paradise is still there, although we don't own it anymore. It's a little farm in the middle of the midwest, Iowa. We go home every year to visit.
