My braces cost about $4,000, so yes, they are generally on the expensive side. But the exact amount depends on the dentist.

Your parents are right, braces are expensive. See what kind of assistance you might quallify for, Call your state or county social services office and talk to people there.
Most states have Dental schools who do work at a greatly reduced rate using students. Many of these do good work. Call local Dentists and ask if they have any programs for people in your position.

My orthodontist charges for metal braces $3800 and clear $4200. They do monthly payment plans and accept all insurances. Explain to your parents it will be an advantage for you to have braces not only appearance wise but for the good of your dental health. Hopefully they reconsider and find a good orthodontist that is affordable and if they have dental insurance for you will accept it.

I've heard as low as $1500 to as high as $10,000. It all depends on how long u'll have 2 wear them and the complexity of ur particular case. Mine were a bit over $4000.

My little brother just got them on all of his teeth and will have them for about 2 years and they charged close to 5,000 dollars.
Types of insurance cover some of it, but not much. And price also depends on how many teeth they cover and how long you will have them.
Good luck. Hope I could Help.
