Yeah.....reminiscent of when Noah got drunk after the flood and was exposed by one of his sons so he condemnd that son's sons to slavery... God has interesting choices of what's sinful and what's acceptable.

And remember...the book insists he chose the ONLY righteous people to survive these punishments.

If you can access Biblical History some where on the net you will first gain a great understanding of how people lived in that time period and of the culture of the people in that area or what rules or morals they lived by. Sodom and Gomorrah was not a God fearing place to live although I am sure there were some God fearing persons there that got out from time to time. Perhaps Lot was one of these that were righteous and Lots daugters were not. They initiated sex with the Father. The Mother was dead and Lot was not going to have a son with her. Perhaps the daughters had been exposed to sex already and had appetite for it. I know it was important in that day to have children especially male children to carry on the family name. Land ownership was by name many times. ie: Canaan was owned by the Caananites,, etc etc... Perhaps these daughters were afraid thier Father would pass and they would not have a man to inherit thier Fathers birthright or land and they would then be subject to captivity by heathen nations.. Sometimes fear of the unknown and our insecurities can drive us to choose the wrong path. I pray that you hold on to God as these daughters should have done instead of leaning to your own understanding. They did not suffer at the hands of the Sodommites when Lot offered them. Perhaps Lot knew they would not harm his daughters and was stalling for time. At any rate they got out unscathed and then took matters into thier won hands out of I do believe fear. This is a very effective tool of Satan ...fear and rejection. Do not let them be used against you dear. God Bless

Lot offered his daughters because he was trying to protect the angels from the men. It was more important that God's angels be protected but the men did not want Lot's daughters because they were homosexuals.

Lot's daughters plied Lot with wine to make him drunk. You have to remember back then that is what people drank with their meals cause it was the only way they had of preserving drinks. So they kept giving hiim more to drink till he was drunk. They were hiding in the mountains as far as the daughters were concerned there was not another man on earth and they wanted to make sure that they had children. His daughters were to blame for this not Lot.

the daughters had sex with Lot, he was passed out drunk. The daughters sinned. He was wrong to offer his daughters to the mob. Wrong and cowardly. God does not condone this kind of conduct. It was wrong and sinful. Not all people in Bible stories are perfect, just as we now are not perfect. But we can be forgiven and are to "go and do it no more."

Lot's incest was sinful (not righteous).

If he is referred to as righteous after that, it would have to be due to his having truly repented of the action.

I agree that it would a very difficult choice for a dad to give up his kids to a mob. Those actions were taken in a different culture/ different time than today (and I do not condone such actions).

Cordially,
John

You really read the bible? Lot's daughters had given him over to excess wine because they feared that they would never have a man to bear children with. Lot offered himself and his daughters to protect the angels from harm. Don't mock! Try reading the whole content and Ask Jesus for the free gift of salvation.

Well, to begin with, the Jews wrote the Bible. This is why they're depicted as the holy ones. Some of them got a little crazy and decided that if it was good for them or they wanted to justify a perversion, they'd just write it in the book and tell the world that a "God" told them to do it. Nice alibi, for an idiot! lol
We've put far too much superstition in that book and don't respect the Bible for what it is... just a history/health book. Nothing more.

This is A Great Lie That Christianity tells abt Prophet Lot (Peace Be Upon Him). He Never Commited such a Shameful Act, And Never were His Daughters Raped, They were chaste people of GOD. It is quite evident that the ppl of Prophet Lot (Peace Be Upon Him) were all homosexuals, and He warned them to Stop this Great Sin, as GOD displeases this Act of theirs, and once he even offered the ppl to marry her daughters, so that they Deviate from this Great Sin, but they were totally Not interested, as they were solely homosexuals. So, GOD ordered Prophet Lot (Peace Be Upon Him) to Leave the City with His Daughters, leaving His wife behind (for her sins), and then GOD Wrath a Great Disaster on Them, and they all died in it.
Even today homosexuality Displeases GOD, so plz Don't indulge in this Great Sin. GOD has made pair of Man and Woman, this homosexuality is so unnatural, plz refrain from this and don't tell lies abt Prophet Lot (Peace Be Upon Him), and Most of all, All Fear ALLAH (GOD). Peace to All.

thank you. it is for this reason we the Muslims take exception to the various versions of the bible.it is inconceivable to the Muslims how any one can accept such a description of the mighty messengers of God.the bible is full of these stories that i dare anyone of you with even half way decent morals to read some of these stories to your 6, 7,8 yr old son or daughter.incest,rape,adultery..etc. In the Quran you will find nothing but glowing, and unbelievable respect for these Men of God.No, Lot was no adultering, incestual Prophet of God.and on the day of regret He will be a witness against them, and peace was on him,the day he was born, the day that he died, and the day he will be raised up for judgment. Amin.

The way I heard it, the God of the Jews is an angry, jealous, vain God who requires worship all the time. It seems that the biggest sin committed by the residents of those two towns was their lack of regard for the Jewish deity, not their profane and debased activities. Those were just described to make the story more interesting . . . .
