First off- GOD BLESS YOU!
Secondly I am so sorry he is so ill! Our shelters where I live give you 30 days free pet insurance should the animal you adopt become ill, I don't know what to tell you to do but you should definately make the shelter aware of the situation. How long did they have the dog? (hopefully not long if he was very skinny) The dog may have passed whatever he has on to other animals there, also they may help you with some of the vet bills, you never know and who can't use a little help with those! They can get SPENDY! And besides, what goes around comes around and you are such a wonderful person for adopting a dog and sticking with him even though he is sick!

Take the dog to another vet for a second opinion and keep trying to get the dog to drink and eat. Give the dog lots of affection to show him hes loved and in order to help calm him so he can get used to his surroundings. Call the shelter and see if they can think of anything that would be causeing this and even look up the dogs breed and get some information that way. Different breeds have
some common problems that their breed shares. So maybe by reading about the breed you may learn that other dogs have this problem or have had this problem. I would definitly take the dog in
for a second opinion though and watch him close. Not knowing his history you never know if there could be a problem lingering from his previous surgery.

If you are working with the vet, just keep checking with his/her office once per day to discuss the dogs symptoms. Sometimes when an animal is a stray they may have been injured and it will take awhile for their system to really start to feel normal again. He is probably still recovering from the surgery. As long as he is drinking water, he will not dehydrate, so he will most likely be fine; it may take him a few days to show improvement. Just keep in contact with the vet and keep an eye on the dog. I will say a prayer for you and him and hope that everything works out for you both. Animals bring a lot of joy into our lives, and it is dreadful when one does not feel well.

frist of all congrats on your new dog. And second it will take him a while to get used to your house and everything that invovled with a new family. for the vomiting you could try giving him a peptobismal ( sorry i don't know how to spell that or much of anything to night). I learned from one of friend s who is a vet and i use it myslef so i know that it's afe i would only give him a half of a pill just to make sure that his stomach can handle it and check with your vet just to make sure that it won't react badly with the meds that he's on i don't think that it would but better safe than than sorry. If you have any more question you can e-mail me at strawberryhillkennels@yahoo.com and i'd be happy to help i've been training dogs for ten years and have been resuceing them for just as long. Good luck

Was there a blood panel run on him? How old is your dog? If he's a small dog - he can have low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) from not eating - but blood test would show this. If he's eating (& not vomiting) feed him small amounts of bland food (boiled chicken, low fat cottage cheese w/ or w/o rice) - some dogs cannot tolerate rice, some can. Sm amnts will help him digest the food & 4-6x/day will help him to hold it down & if he's a toy or smaller - help his blood glucose not drop down to fast. *Keep him on the anti-emetics (anti-nausea) meds until you are sure his tummy is feeling better.

I would try taking the dog to another vet. It doesn't sound good for him. Call the shelter and tell them about the dog. Hope he will be okay.

Your vet should be helping you with this....Maybe he just needs to rest up from the surgery and from the trauma. Surely the vet gave you some idea of what is going on with the dog.

If your vet can't fix him after knowing what ails him, how do you expect someone on the net give you a mirracle cure? Listen and follow your vets advice. Don't try and get outside help unless they are vets. If a family member was sick, would you look for someone on the net to cure them or would you take them to Dr.?
