Because most people don't see the big picture. They see the world as being an extension of their own backyards- and have NO IDEA about what it's like somewhere else. It's called Ignorance...- and it's the most common cause of "blindness".

If this is true then why do Americans leave? Why are people in the west Canadians and Americans alike going to the East for jobs and to live. Some people yes are trying to escape injustices and I believe if all the ones escaping stayed in their country's and fought for there rights maybe their country's would be better. BUT That is not the only reason why people leave. Some like to travel some have different views and enjoy another culture better then there own. So even this we can not generalise on. All people are different and they all have different reasons for the things they do.

Why don't you think people realise this? It's pretty obvious that people come to America because they are treated unfairly in other countries. I'm not sure I understand your lingo there. I don't see what this has to do with FTA, and all that. I mean it probably has something to do with it, but that's not the main cause of the problems. The problems are dictators, and facist regimes, lack of education, poor infrastructure, and other economic factors. I'm no fan of the World Bank, or the U.N. though. These people who are treated unfairly (I don't like to use the term unfair, it's too general), come to the United States, many of them without getting papers. Not having papers causes all kind of problems. I'm not sure why people aren't getting that part of the picture. It seems like you are thinking too much, and not looking at the problem with common sense. I don't think it takes a genius to figure out what the problem is, or the cause, or the solution really. We have laws that solve the problem, and we have a Border Patrol. Not to be mean to you, but it seems like people thinking too much and not doing anything is the problem.

Treated fairly by who?
Their own government?
It's up to them to change their way of life if they need to.
If they need a little help - why we here in the USA have been known to assist a struggling nation to achieve democracy.
As far as illegal aliens go - Illegal means NOT legal.

I think we do realize this, but it isn't easy to undo. We can't just change the rest of the world when we want to and we can't do much here when the two halves of the political sphere are at each others throats all the time.

I think that, as a whole, we do. The thing is that we can't be all things to all people. One place cannot support all of the people of the world that are dissatisfied with their home countries.

It's not our problem. Illegals need to fight to make their country better, just like our forefathers did for us! Come over legal, or stay the heck out!! It's as simple as that, and most Americans agree with me.
