Not sure what mistake has been made - aside from getting too keen in the press, to suggest they had the killer.
Once they'd got a plausible confession, they had to bring the guy back from Thailand, in order to get a decent lab sample for the DNA test. They got the DNA test results & realised it couldn't have been him - what's the problem ?

There were so many mistakes made in that case that everyone involved originally should be fired. They compromised the DNA and their tunnel vision focus on the parents allowed a killer to walk.
Recently however, picking up Carr, allowing him to drink champagne, eat well and fly first class, that was good Police work, you need the suspect to open up. Yes they needed to pick him up, Thailand Police have different standards than the US courts will allow. Even if you think the suspect is lying you must question him, if not a potential killer could walk, the DA and investigators had no choice.
I am a former cop.

This may be the most bungled case in the history of LE. It would appear that an intelligence test was required and only those who failed were allowed to stay on for very long. They have had some pretty bright people involved but the leadership is terrible.

Yes, they should all be fired. It seems that the Karr fiasco was a stunt pulled off to pacify the Ramseys, especially Patsy Ramsey who was given the comfort on her deathbed a while ago that there was a suspect who would be taken into custody soon.

Maybe you should find out the details before you make snap judgments. Better yet, offer your expertise since you seem to know exactly what went on.
What is he going to sue for moron? He got arrested for a crime that he confessed to. He should be charged for that and forced to make restitution for all the money he cost them.

to be honest the term Keystone Cops certainly applies to them.... I have never seen a more screwed up investigation starting from the the moment the letter was found... the parents screwed up the scene just as much as the police did... this killer will never be caught.... This poor child will never rest in peace...... too bad failed her..
