actually,he and other of his friends were told not to have their recess at 3.30pm and its ends at 4pm.So..they stay back up to 4pm until the recess was over.So pity...but I think the mother wrote a letter to the teacher ...

Skipping lunch is not an acceptable form of punishment especially for a 9 year old boy. But before the mother flies off the handle she needs to know the facts. She needs to talk to the teacher and her son to find out the truth. If the teacher indeed kept him from lunch that is a serious offense and she should talk to the school board about this issue. A reasonable punishment for a 9 year old would be to keep him from recess, not lunch. Lunch for a kid that age is essential for concentration, if he's too hungry to concentrate, he's not going to learn. Basically any activity that he can be excluded from without being physically mistreated is an acceptable punishment. Keep him from recess, or music, or art. Set him apart from his peers to show him the effects of misbehavior and also to show his peers a lesson as well.

No, that is not the correct way to discipline or treat a child. Did he just skip going to the cafeteria for lunch or did he not eat? If he says he did not eat, your Friend needs to go to the school and do some investigating. Your friend might want ask her son questions like, what the cafeteria served for lunch that day and if her son liked it, just to make sure that her son is not fibbing. If he insists that he did not have lunch that day, I would say, " Operation mommy is in effect".

No this is not the correct way to discipline kids as it cause more problem to the kids in future, If such thing really happened in SG, I suggest you should bring the matter to MOE for their attention.

If the school board found out about this the, the teacher could be fired and the school could get in trouble.

Yes, absolutely, spoiled brats deserve that, there's no other way to deal with them, if u don't discipline them, they will sit on ur head very soon. It is not any problem at all.

no, i dont think that's the way as "corporal punishment" is not needed. i think the teacher would need conselling for doing that.
