I am TOTALLY HORRIFIED to ask this, but in one of my questions someone mentioned these and I just came across another reference. I don't know what they are, please be as nice as possible when describing it, I have gathered that they are bad.... but I am due to have my child in 5 days and my hormones will cause me to cry uncontrollably if you give me gory details!

No details...ruthless people who breed dogs for profit, in terrible conditions...Now don't read any more. Just concentrate on yourself and your baby! Good luck!

A "puppy mill" is a breeder who does nothing but constantly breed dogs. They start off with a couple and with each litter they keep maybe one, and then breed that one as well. They sell all the puppies to "pet shops" generally found in malls. The problem with this is that often times the dogs are mating with thier parents, or siblings, and then you end up with sick dogs being sold to people like you and me. They also breed the females much more frequently than is healthy for the dog. "Puppy mills" are in it purely for the money, and not for the benefit of the breed. If you're ever looking for a new dog and want a purebred, try to find a breeder (by word of mouth) who only breeds their dogs once or twice a year. Then you'll get a good, healthy puppy.

So, now that you know what a puppy mill is I hope you can get some sleep tonight and not cry uncontrollably. Best of luck with your new baby!!!

Report any suspected dog breeders to your city/county law/code enforcement office and they will check for licenses and have the place checked for health and welfare of the pets. In fact, spread the news that puppy mills are the worst places to get a pet. More than likely they are all inbred and genetically damaged. Many puppy mill owners are serving jail time and/or have paid high fines. Be horrified, but be Informed. Help end the atrocities. Best wishes on your new child.

A puppy mill is a place where people breed certain types of dogs only to sell the puppies off for profit. In the process the mothers/fathers of these puppies are treated horribly and receive no medical care. The puppies that are the product of these puppy mills often are very ill due to inbreeding and poor vet care. It's very sad. If you are interested at all in animal rights/welfare check out peta.org. They have a lot of good information on that kind of subject. Although I can guarantee it will make you cry!

Puppy mills are horror chambers for dogs and their puppies. It is like a puppy factory where the only thing they care about is making money.

In puppy mills, puppies are born in cages, stacked high, feces and urine falling from one cage into the other. The adult dogs are kept the same way. No human contact except for the person who throws feed into their cages every 2 or 3 days. The dogs are always sick and never get vet care. They are usually kept in large barns or builldings that are too hot in summer and too cold in winter. The adults are bred every heat cycle until they get too old to breed and then they are usually shot or knocked in the head. They don't want to feed a dog after it has lost its usefulness. The puppies are sold to pet stores all across the country. As long as people continue to buy from these places, the puppy mills will continue to stay in business.

puppy mills are filled with dogs that are forced to make puppies. the puppies are then sent to pet stores to be sold for a profit. people buy the puppies not knowing that their parents were tortured in factories. but the puppies are also sick. they die within a few months of the purchase. they are mostley in tennesee, but the govoner is trying to stop them.

i hope that helped. congradulatons on the baby!

PEOPLE - Please don't use known animal rights groups as sources of actual information. They lie, twist the truth, and doctor videos/photos in their no more pet agenda! WAKE UP!
