This section has become like a battleground. There seems to be almost no-one here is not aggressively atheist or aggressively pushing their religion onto others. Let's just call it a day, shall we? And agree to disagree.

The thing is, I asked a routine question about a different faith and was told by several people to convert to Christianity or burn in hell. How rude is that? That's what I mean by aggressive proselytizing.

I don't usually go to this site, but I had to when I saw your question. The statement you made is exactly why I don't respond. It is like a battleground. I don't expect everyone to agree--after all, you learn by give and take, exchange of ideas. What's happening lately is that it's become uncivilized. You can have strong opinions either way on a question, but there is no need to attack others who don't agree, or for someone to act like they're preparing a sermon for non-believers.

I consider myself religious in that I believe in the tenets of my faith. That doesn't mean I attend church. The same people that proselytize here are the same ones I've seen in church. I don't need that in my life.

Thanks for taking the first step with your question. Sounds like you've been the wisest one on here in quite a while.

wow i had to look the word up proselytizes first of all and thank you for allowing me to learn something new through you!
you know my problem wth this section is that the question are not proper nor suitable for there to be a humble, loving answer to ones question. I am guilty of becoming very arrogant and very angry and tend to answer nasty questions this way as a way of lashing them. I would never pose a rude or shameful question about a religion but i sure can strike back to defend my fellow Muslim brothers and sister my Religion and my belief and faith!

I agree we disagree. But people on BOTH sides of the issue ask questions and gives answers inteneded to irritate the other side.

I am a very religious person. If you are or not, it doesn't matter to me, i live my life according to the dictates of my concious (Great Queen Elizabeth I Quote) The best way a Christan (Or an Atheist) can prove thier beliefs is by tolerating and careing for others.

Christians have a right to share their beliefs. This is a free country. The last I heard we still have freedom of speech. If someone tells me they don't want to hear it then I must back off and respect their privacy. If I continue after being told to back off then I'm in the wrong. If the christian doctrine of hell bothers you then you need to examine christianity to see if it is really from God. If you come to the conclusion that it is then you better turn to Christ. If you come to the conclusion that it is a lot of bull then the doctrine of hell won't bother you. There are other religions that believe in hell and they say that I, as a christian, am going to hell because I don't follow their religion. That doesn't bother me because I have examined their religion and do not believe it's really a revelation from God.

Could someone please define what "pushing and shoving" their views or religion means? Because I am tired of people saying this. I haven't seen anyone push their religion on anyone. They just share their views and opinions by answering the questions. If someone doesn't like what they say then they should not ask or move on. Plain and simple. This section is not for those who are against it but for those who are for it and want to learn. We have a report button and I suggest that everyone should use it if offended.

It's just how people are and it mirrors really well here how the folks out there really think. Particularly religion seems to get to them.

No - it would be wrong to exclude them, we would miss that piece of reality. How unreal if everything is peaceful. I think what makes the Internet and all media great is that it is unfiltered and uncensored.

Actually the best way if you feel disturbed, stressed, offended, unhappy, hurt etc. by them is to ignore them. Don't read their messages. Or give them a thumbs down rating if they rage tasteless.

This section will always be a battleground because of the nature of the topic and the fanatics that each religion creates.

I don't mind the proselytizing as much as the bashing and arguing that goes on. I really think that it is a sign of immaturity, however. I just ignore it when I can. Again, it's really just immaturity.

Since the category is Religion & Spirituality, I think it's only fair that everyone get to voice their opinions. If you don't agree, move on.
