Find somewhere soft to stick it in...
the ground, because your tent stakes must be driven deep.
A little bush is good...
to block some wind in case of a storm.

A center pole is required to be firmly "bedded" in the best place like a clearing devoid of undergrowth or grass close to a water source. The protection from pollution is preferable. Suit your requirements according to the surroundings and environment.
