Obviously not for you...since you put 'emailed' in bold print. Relax a thank you is a thank you.

I think a lot of it depends on the gift. If it's something really expensive or fancy, a card would be a more kinda gesture. But, an e-mail thank you is better than none at all, so don't feel too bad. The fact that you were willing to take at least that much time does show the giver appreciation for the gift.

As long as you received the gift via email, that is fine. If you received it any other way, you should have send a hand-written thank you note, or at least a card.

No its not appropriate its actually kind of tacky.spend the money for a nice card and stamp write a little something nice in it about the gift you received from them.that would be the right thing to do.

I actually just read a Dear Abby about this very subject. No its not appropriate to e-mail a thank you. You took your time and money to be thoughtful and e-mailing a Thank you is rude. Did you send your present postage due to her house? I don't think so. But nothing you can really do but move on and know she just doesn't know proper etiquette for thank yous.

At least you received a thank you note - that seems to be a forgotten art in this day and age

yes, while it is not the formal way of doing it, be glad the recipient had the decency to say thank you. I have given out holiday gifts at work and so few people have said thank you that I am not doing it again.

If it was a wedding gift, I would say no. If it's someone you know and you email back and forth, I don't see why it would be offensive to you.
