After a while my skin itches and burns slightly ? Is it mites ? When mite spraying; is it okay to spray the bird from a distance (15-25 cm). Does'nt the spray affect the eyes of the bird ???Ive read instructions and they say to spray like this .Will this bird infect another bird if it has minimal contact with the other ??

Probly not mites because they wouldnt go for people and you would see them. You are probly alergic to your bird's oils in it's skin. If I were you, I'd go to the Dr. as soon as it happened again to see if that is it. Because if you are alergic to your bird you may need to find another pet to keep instead of a bird, for your own healths sake.

you'd be able to see the mites. it's probably an allergy to the birds dander. try taking some alergy med. like benadril about 20minutes before you hold him. if the reaction is minimized or doesn't occur. you are probably allergic to the little guy. or you could ask your doctor to test you for an allergy.
when i was younger i was allergic to bird dander, couldn't even sleep on a feather pillow without getting hives. I've out grown it though.

Make sure to spray the BACK of the bird. Cup your hand around his head to avoid getting it into his eyes!!!
Mites can easily travel from one bird to another. I've even had mites travel from one CAGE to another at my house.

Mites are very rare on domestic pet birds. It sounds like you have an allergy.

you may be slightly allergic. Try filing the nails just to take the point off and see if that helps.
