What exactly is a GED, I mean I know that's it's like a high school dipoma but what do I have to do to get it? Is it like a single test or is it a class or course that I have to take?

Also how much time and preperation does it take? I work full time during the day and my evenings are spent taking care of my daughter so I don't have alot of spare time for classes or studying.

So is there anyone here who's gone through the process and can give me some info I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks :)

Usually at your public library or local bookstores, you can find standardized test prep books. I'm pretty sure there is one for the GED. After you find out how to go about getting one from, try to find one of these prep books, and study a little bit every day - even if it's only 15-30 minutes. This will save you a lot of time compared to going to evening classes, and still having to do homework on top of that.

Here's an example, from amazon:

I wish you well.

A GED is a Good Enough Diploma

I don't know why you are getting one - but I know of a school teacher who had his master degree and never had a H.S. Diploma or GED. If you want to further your education - maybe you shouldn't waste your time with this basically worthless certificate that doesn't get anyone ahead in life. I would just move on to college or a certificate program in a field of your interest.

I just don't see the point of it because it doesn't really improve anyones ability to get a better paying job. Employers want college or certificates of education that go beyond High School...

If you still want one - your local High School is who you should call to find out what you need to study and when a test will be given to get your GED. Good Luck.

My brother just completed it in the state of AZ. He contacted a community college and they let him know the steps to completing his GED.

First he had to take a pre-test to see what he already knew. If he scored very low he would have needed to take preparation classes before the real test.

Since he passed the pretest, he was allowed to take the regular GED test. There were 5 different sections he had to take, all on seperate days.

You are then notified by mail whether you passed or failed. If you pass, they send you your GED certificate. If you fail, they tell you to take the classes.

Good luck
