I have raised Shih tzu's and Yorkies for 6 years and never had more than a case of worms in my kennel, I recently added a dog to my kennel with kennel cough, would you vaccinate adults and pups or let it run its course, 5 or so adults and 3 pups are coughing, its awful.

It is to late now, the vaccine will not help, you should not have let him on your property until he was well.

Kennel cough sounds awful but doesn't seem to bother the dogs overly. You will have to watch for pneumonia, but most dogs do get through it ok.

Giving the Bordatella vaccine is like giving a flu shot, it does not cover all strains. I do not give Bordatella as I think it is an unneccessary vaccine and I have had problems with it.

No offense intended, but it sounds like you have alot to learn about managing your kennel

Absolutely. You are fortunate that you have gone this long before having a problem. I personally recommend that the bordatella shot against kennel cough be done each year. This will prevent you having further problems. Once one gets it, they will all get it, but there is no such thing as it's running it's course, the dogs need treatment and preventative in the future. Get the meds plus vaccine for all your dogs even those that are not yet showing signs of coughing.

YES, and do it first thing tomorrow! Do not wait! You have sick dogs. And besides the vaccination, be certain to disinfect all of your dog kennels and common areas. Your puppies will not be able to go to homes with other dogs for several weeks, after being treated, because they are so contagious. Be sure to clean the bedding and the food and water bowls, too! Good luck!

K for all you die hard vet fans who have no clue how hard it is to drive in snow, notice how she said she's snowed in- Its not like the dog has parvo or it broke its back- its just coughing. Wait til it clears up a bit and THEN you should go get antibiotics but there's no use getting into a car accident (which would hurt the dog more) over this. The only treatment is an antibiotic otherwise it could take a while for the dog to get over it.

Yes, definitely get all dogs vaccinated. This is actually a form of pneumonia or bronchitis in dogs. It can get a lot worse if untreated. I had one that had it, that had come from an animal rescue and he almost died because it had not been taken care of.

Yes, definitely have it done. Kennel cough will affect all of your dogs from here on out if you don't.

Get them all to the vet for treatment and the bordatella vaccine. You are risking losing one or more of them if untreated. They will keep passing it around.

Kennel cough as you know by now is highly contaigous please contact your vet and let him know what has happened. In a case such as yours his is the only responsible answer you should seek

I would get them all vaccinated. You could have a continuous case for years if you don't.
