God created man with free will. If he hadn't done that we'd all be computers. There would be no love in the world. You cannot love without free will. If god allows people to love and care for and do good to others he must also allow them to rape and steal and blow up twin towers. If you just give man the right to do good and not evil, that man is still programmed like a computer. He's not free. If you were madly in love with your wife and one day she was killed in a car accident and you didn't want to live anymore and I told you 'don't worry I'm a scientist and I can make a computer that wil look and sound and act so much like your wife that if I didn't tell you that she was a computer you'd never know the difference'......Would that be satisfactory to you? I don't think so. You'd say ' I don't care how much she acts like my wife she's still a computer.....when she says she loves me she says it because you programmed her to say it'. Do you think 9/11 was wrong? How do you even decide what right and wrong is? You must have some kind of a standard.
Is that just your standard? Then that's just your opinion. You think it's wrong but I can guarantee you that the Muslims who did that have their own standard. They think they're going to heaven for killing all those people. They have they're own standard. It's just different from your standard. Why is your standard better than there's? I guess what I'm trying to get at is the fact that you think 9/11 was wrong tells me that even you believe there's a standard for right and wrong. But that standard must come from beyond us. It's got to be an ultimate standard. Only God could give such a standard of right and wrong. The fact that I see evil in the world doesn't tell me that there is no God. On the contrary, Evil tells me that there must be a God. Without a standard, we wouldn't even know what evil was.

This is essentially the "why do bad things happen to good people question", with a twist. What I would suggest thinking about is the underlying assumption to this question, which is that our biological life here on earth is the most important thing. In a religious sense - and there are many religions that believe this - it is not, since the life here on earth is just one phase of the true life of the person, which continues on after physical death in the earthly world.
If that is your frame of reference, it is not hard to understand that, while it is a sad and terrible thing for people to have died in the 9/11 attacks, or in any other place and time for that matter, it really does not disprove the existence of God, and even of a merciful and compassionate and loving God. Because a merciful and compassionate and loving God may have something far better in store for those who "died" - that is, whose earthly biological life ended.
So it's all a matter of your perspective. If you believe that there is only this fleeting biological life, and that's the most important thing in regard to the human person, then it's natural for you to come to that conclusion. But if you think there is more to "life" than biological existence - that there is the life of the soul, and that there will be a resurrection of souls and bodies, and that there will be an eternal life of blessedness and bliss, etc., then it is not hard to reconcile the existence of God with even things like 9/11, as terrible as that day and those events might have been. And believe me, I am not minimizing them, because I was there and saw it up close and personal, and still grieve inside about it.
So in conclusion: question your assumptions...

9/11? Is 9/11 the first terrible thing that has ever happened? How about Katrina? How about earthquakes, fires and floods? The Oklahoma bombing?
This earth is full of people who sin. The earth was cursed when Adam and Eve sinned in the garden. Sin is not God's fault; it was brought into existence through disobedience to God. But one day Jesus Christ will come to rule and reign, and all will be put right.
Please don't blame God for the idiocy of terrorists. By the way, do you know that the World Trade Center can hold upwards of 50,000 people? 3,000 people died that day. That's not saying it's okay.....but think about all who were kept out of the building that day, for one reason or another!

What you need to understand is that people use God as an excuse to wage vengence on the innocent. They think that what they are doing is Gods' will, but honestly do you think that God will support people who kill the poor, innocent, and the weak. There is pain and suffering all over the world.
Think about your parents when you were growing up. Everything you did have they always intervene. Only sometimes they have and other times they have stood back and watch you fall just so that you can stand back up on your own. A learning process.
God doesn't intervene because He is trying to teach us how to live with one another. It's the choices that people like you and I make everyday determines the outcome of ones life and how it affects others. Those same choices are given to those who govern countries and leaders of gangs, and terrorists and so on.
You can't blame God for the suffering of little children it all has to do with those who have authority over them. Thats' why we have parents, government agencies, and country leaders and officials.
The children that have suffered and died under tyranny, abuse, and any other man made device to harm, use and abuse or kill innocent children will have their day and their death and blood will stand as a witness in the day of judgement.
So don't threat the Lord God has has already outlined a day of judgement for those who have done wrong. Just make sure you treat others the way they'd like to be treated no matter what colour, race, physical, mental disability one might have.
Just put yourself in their shoes and try to understand what they are going through.

Why does God allow this???
So I take it you believe God was somehow responsible for it.
God does not do terrible things, terrible people do terrible things. I suppose I should be mad at God because my 4 yr old nephew has brain cancer and probably will die with in the yr. Its His fault right?
This planet is made up of some very wicked people who do very wicked things. They will answer to God's wrath!
As far as the little children dying, thank God they are in heaven today enjoying Gods love!

God did not bring about 9/11; the angry hearts of men brought it about.
God does not kill kids; when a child dies, we mourn, and God mourns with us. And He gives us the strength, against all odds, to pick up the pieces and live our lives again.
I wish things were different, that God was in control of everything, and nothing bad ever happened. But one can look around and see that it isn't so.
But...Despite the pain and sadness, there is also love, forgiveness, and beauty. I thank God for the good and bad, and for being with me through it all.
peace

There is a God, or else you wouldn't be here. I'm a Christian, but I'm also very young. These answers are my best, but may not be exactly right.
9/11- No one knows. God doesn't explain His actions, and He doesn't have to. He knows what He's doing, He's not just winging it. He's had a plan from the beginning.
children's deaths- I don't believe that children are punished for their parents sins, because Jesus said they aren't, and God is just. I don't have an answer for this, and everyone else's response will blow mine out of the water.
But please don't give up on God. You can email me with any questions you have.

The events of September 11, 2001 were terrible. God allowed this to happen because He has given people free will. I believe a better question would be why people allowed this to happen. Why did some individuals cause this to happen?
This does not in any way test my faith in God.

Do you ever think that maybe, oh i don't know, that 9/11 was caused by human error? As far as little kids, that's too broad of a generalization. Kids die all the time, doesn't necessarily mean God "took" them.

theres is a logical explanation for this: TO PROTECT US FROM GREATER EVIL IN THE FUTURE...because of 9/11 thats why that terror plot was "foiled" with the liquid bombs it makes a lot of sense. 9/11 was a reality check. Remember flight 93
