I know what you mean completely. My memories suck ***, too. Have you tried memory suppression? When those thoughts come back, immediately think about something else, or keep telling yourself that it came out differently. That seems to work with me, sometimes. It's better than not doing anything about it, right?

I have an exercise that I do when my mind runs wild with unpleasant thoughts.

Force your attention on imagining the number 1. Close your eyes and try to picture that number as clearly as possible in you mind's eye. the picture the number 2. Make the mental image as vivid as possible. Same with 3, 4, 5. You probably will not need to go any further, by that time yor mind will be off those discouraging thoughts. And you will be back in control.

I know what situation you are in, i am in the same boat. The truth is, we really should not think of what has passed or what will happen in future. Instead, we should focus on the present and make the best out of life. When your mind start to drift to the past, remind yourself, "Spending all this time to think of these nonsense is only an act of torturing ourself". You can write that out and read everytime when your mind begins to drift. I hope that helps.

Two quotes for you to ponder.....

Many a man fails to become a thinker for the sole reason that his memory is too good. (Friedrich Nietzsche)

The more things a man is ashamed of,
the more respectable he is.
George Bernard Shaw
