The best puppy food or even dog food for that matter is Iams. When buying dog food, check the label. Make sure that some form of protien is the first ingredient, chicken meal, or lamb meal. NOT corn meal. Protien is better for building their bones and joints. If you give them a good start you will have a healthier dog in the long run. If the expense is a little more difficult at times it is ok to mix food, but try to keep with the good stuff as much as possible. Good Luck:)

Start with the best food right away and you won't have the hassle of changing over later. Some of the best are Solid Gold, Wellness, Eagle Pack, and Merrick. Read the ingredients list. The first five should not include any by-product or ingredient you cannot identify.

First things first, dry food. Wet food makes a puppy's life span shorter. I recommend the NutroMax brand. It's a bit pricey, but it doesn't have that unpleasant dog-food smell and is pretty healthy for your dog, and it's very filling! Don't get Pedigree- the dog goes- A LOT. And it's not very filling. If NutroMax doesn't float your boat, look for foods with real meat protein, real vegetables, milk, all that good stuff.

Science Diet brand puppy food, sold at pet and veterinary stores too. When looking at the label check the protein amount. I would go for the one with the highest protein, least amount of salt in it.

What size is your puppy? Royal Canin has tiny bites available for yorkies, and chi's, the dry food such be small enough for him to crunch easily, any quality dog food such as Iams or Hills is good and has less fibre than say Pedigree or no name or store brands, less fibre means smaller poop piles. Dry food is best.

The shelter I got my dog from gave us Science diet. I talked with my vet and asked them if I should continue using it or if I should switch because I always used Purina, she said, "Science diet is very good, but its a bit pricey and hard to come by (you can't find it at the grocery store). But any type of NAME BRAND* dog food is ok, just don't use the "store brand" because they often have what the NAME BRANDS won't use in them..."
And thats what my vet told me
