i recently had a stent removed from my ureter due to complications and the doctor gave me 10mgs of valium and nothing more, it was the most painful thing I have experience other than the kidney stone and child birth itself. Is pain medicine not required for such a procedure?

He obviously didn't give the valium time to work. Pain meds ARE required if the PATIENT requests them ! Valium is a tranquilizer, not a pain medication.

I have have several of these removed; and I INSISTED on pain meds; before ANYbody ever came near me ! But, with this, you need to have a driver with you.

Oh no. That's too bad. I have had 3 stents removed without any medication and had only momentary pain. It was gone before I even registered the pain.

I don't know why he didn't sedate you more. Obviously, he has never had a stent removed with no anesthesia!!! Maybe he thought the few seconds of pain were worth the danger of sedation. I'm sorry U had to go thru that.

I had a stent removed without any medication, and the actual removal was painless, if a bit weird feeling (like peeing something solid). The stupid doctor poking around for five minutes complaining that he couldn't FIND my bladder (hello! urologist!! isn't that your specialty?!?!! and didn't you just put @#$%^* cold water IN so the bladder would expand?!?!!) was quite painful.
