When we start to do things out of habit we stop paying attention to our experience and begin to act on auto pilot. When this happens we are not truly feeling or living in the moment.

What a great quote, and I agree with what Jenny said. Someone forever doing things out of force of habit or because they've always done it that way is in a sense locked in a casket. Being unwilling to change beliefs, practices or habits is like being cut off from oxygen, because no nice fresh air is being allowed in, and that is a living death. The term "winds of change" applies here.

When you do things out of habit, you tend to get numbed from the experience because of the familiarity. When that happens, it isn't an experience that you can learn from because you're already doing it mechanically and not processing the other intangible benefits you get from doing the act.
