The value of diamonds can change drastically due to quality issues. Industrial diamonds used to coat sawblades are not nearly as valuable as the diamonds found in a wedding ring, for instance.

But pure gold is an element with a fairly standard value rating that does not change much, which is why it is used as the standard for most countries & banks around the world.

Well, diamonds aren’t valued by their weight as gold is. At $617.80 an ounce, gold still holds a bit of value. I think we will be able to say “worth your weight in gold” for a while.

How about you're worth your weight in plutonium or uranium? Those things sure are costly and they don't fluctuate either because they're really not on the market.
