I am trying to reformat my hard drive using windows xp. After I select format using NTFS (quick), it starts to load the set up files. I keep getting an error during this load saying that Windows couldn't load some of the files correctly. Why is this happening and what can I do to proceed?

Sounds like there might be bad sectors on the drive. Try the NTFS format (not quick) and let it verify the areas before trying to write to them....

Hi, I've had to load a lot of systems and the only time I get these read errors in setup are when:
1) The CD is bad.
2) The CD-ROM unit is old and unable to read all the sectors on a CD.
These read errors are caused by a bad CD or a bad CD-ROM so try getting a clean copy of the CD and if the errors still happen then you need to replace the CD-ROM. That's it. If you already know the CD is good like if it was used successfully in another installation then there's your answer.

try formatting ntfs on normal mode, i mean not the quick one...
if you still got an error, replace your winXP installer I believe thats causing the trouble... though it may also be caused by bad memory modules or badsectors...

its probably your cd, check to see if its scratched or if there is something on it.or you can try using a different cd drive if the current one you are using is having trouble reading the cd.
