Just ask. They usually take anyone, no questions asked. They just take it for granted that you can sing.

Call a church and ask for the name and telephone number of the choir director. Tell them you want to join a choir. Usually, you attend the church where you are in the choir. Some communities have mass choirs, but I'm not sure how you hook up with them. I think you have to start checking out some churches on Sunday mornings--Baptists, Methodist, Church of Christ, nondenominational.

I don't exactly agree with the comment about auditioning for a choir meaning they are not there to worship. Choirs, in my experience are always looking for people willing to sing. I get asked all the time (I actually teach on Sunday mornings, so I'm not available), and when I say, I can't sing, they ALWAYS say, "hon, that doesn't matter at all." But I do know that they need to know where to have you stand, alto, soprano, whatever, so yes, show up at choir rehearsal (ours is on Wednesday nights) and if you don't know when that is, call the church office and they will tell you. But please don't be offended if they ask you to "audition" to find a spot for you. But DO be offended if they ask you to "audition" then tell you you didn't make the cut. Now, THAT, I agree, is wrong. Unless, you are wanting to try out for a praise team spot. You know, the people in front with the mike actually leading the praise and worship (if you have that style at your church)? Sorry, but you gotta have a set of pipes to lead people in worship in that way. If you can't sing, then people will focus on your lack of talent and not the Lord. But the choir? Nah, you just gotta be willing and want to serve God.

It depends on the church and the choir. Some churches hold auditions while others do not. First find a church that you want to become involved in and then ask how they go about things.

Call the office and ask for the music director or the choir director.
Sometimes they have different choirs, like a "folk" choir.
Usually the church year starts in Sept, like a school year.
It depends on the director -- sometimes you have to audition, othertime you just have to show up regularly.

Every choir that I have been in I just showed up at the practice. No audition. If you have to audition they are not singing for the purpose of worship but for performance alone and I wouldn't join them.

while you're making them connect the choir while they of course do no longer decide for to, it is going to do away with their exhilaration in making a music. music isn't something that must be compelled on infants. it is a fashion of expressing oneself, being innovative, and having relaxing. in the event that they ever have a desire to sing with a team, they are going to discover one - no count if or no longer it is a college choir, a community team, or purely a storage band. If making a music is something they decide for to pursue formally, they assist you to comprehend. If no longer, it is okay too. music is an entire life interest. they are able to take it up if and while they decide for. For now, enable them to play soccer with the gang and sing at residing house for his or her very very own amusement.

ask your choir director. even if you have a poor voice they might let you in. they might tell you to just move your lips and not really sing. that's what they told me to do.
