Today is Jan 1.
You Bday is Dec 31.

His Birthday is on the 31st of December, he said this on the 1st of January. Which means he was 17 on the 30th of December, 18 on the 31st and will be 19 this year when the 31st of December comes around.

his 18 birthday is december 31st. today is january 1st. therefore december 30th (day before yesterday) he was 17. being as today is january 1st (new year), later this year he will be 19. but he could be a time traveller too.

He legally changed his age (if that's possible...probably not). Nah.
No, because according to scientific principle, to travel through time is impossible (only in the movies). Is the answer "a leap year?" It was just New Years, and there was a leap year(?).
Either that or he grew two inches in two days.
