We went to pet smart, and they have indoor potty pads that actually have a grass smell inside the pad. You have to watch the dog for "telltale signs" that it has to go potty. Just about every dog has one or more. Keep the pad away from the food or water. Watch the puppy after eating, sleeping, playing for an extended time. These are the key Potty times. our dog does a funny little sniff/sneeze sound. It isn't real loud, but once you associate it with potty, you'll hear it every time. Then you take the puppy and place it on the pad repeatedly until it goes. Big praise when it goes on tha pad, it is a big deal, so let him/her know how happy you are, and they will be happy to oblige again and again. You can only scowl your puppy within the first 15 seconds after an "accident", you literally have to catch them in the act. Yelling at a puppy after the first 15 seconds will do more harm than good, as it won't know why your yelling at it.
Once your puppy uses the pad regularly, start the process over, listen to the sounds, take it to the potty spot. The potty spot is always the same area of yard. That area is strictly potty, no playing, no hanging out, nothing but potty. Again big praise and even treats for going in the right area. It takes ALOT of work and alot of PATIENCE. Just remember this, one day, in the not too distant future, your puppy will tell you when it has to go, wait for you to let it out. It will all be worth it one day =-)

Good Luck, Take Care

I can tell you how. But I can tell you why NOT to too.

HOW YOU CAN: Get a metal tray . You can use a cookie sheet if closed on all 4 sides. You can get a big one for oil draining under a vehicle in an appropriate store.
Choose where you want the potty. Cover the top with newspapers. Nearby have plastic bags, and supply of newspaper. On top sheet of paper manage to have some of the puppy's urine and mess..the dog knows its own scent and will go again where that scent is. After th dog finishes a meal it typically is going to go to that paper, and you may want to pick the pup up and put it there... with its leash on if you prefer.it wont take long for the pup to learn that. But th dog is not as fastidious as a kitten and you can figure on mistakes before it masters the subject.

Why THINK TWICE ABOUT IT:
You might not end up with a 5 lb adult dog. It might get big and still be using that potty. A 12 wk old male boxer is typical..What I had in mind was a toy poodle. A grown male boxer? I rather think I would not.

Dogs are like potty training kids. Take him outside every 1/2 hour. If he goes make a big deal out of it. Tell him he's a good boy, pet him get him happy that he did a good job. The thing is that male dogs have a harder becoming potty trained than females. The real training period begins at about 6 months of age so expect accidents here and there. We also have cage trained all our dogs. I also recommend talking with your Vet and getting his advice as well.

1. Teach a specific word : Each time you want your new puppy to
poop or urinate, try to repeat the same word over. You can use
whatever words you want, like "go poop" "go potty". By repeating
the same words each time, it will become another command for your
puppy, and she will be able to do it when you mention the
command.

2. Take her to the same spot every time. If you have had other
dogs, or talked with other dog owners, you know that when a dog
go pee on one spot on the carpet, they go back exactly at the
same place over and over. Why? Because they recognize the smell,
and it tells them to go back there. Now, knowing this, you need
to do two things : take your dog outside for its pee/poop, and
take her exactly at the same place each day. Your puppy will
recognize her smell and know she has do pee there.

Second, if your puppy pees somewhere inside, by accident, make sure you
clean the floor or the carpet thoroughly so the smell really goes
away. At first I used windex to clean a pee spot but it did not
work. My puppy kept going back. A friend of mine gave me a bottle
of pet odor remover and it is the only stuff that worked well in
my house. This is where you see its true that a dog sense of
smell is so much more developed then ours!

3. Confine your puppy for the night. Usually, your puppy will not
pee in its own bed, so it is better to confine her in a box or a
crate, with not a lot of space around her dog bed. Make sure you
take your puppy out first thing in the morning though, and not at
10am! Your puppy might not be able to hold all night, but she
will learn quickly that she has to do it outside.

4. Watch your dog a lot : you can't really expect your puppy to
knock on the door when he wants to go outside to pee. The best
thing of course is to have a dog door so your puppy can go
outside herself, but if this option is not possible, try to
observe what your puppy does before he pees, and take him outside
as soon as you see the sign. You can also teach your puppy to ask
for the door, but that might take some time.

5. Take your puppy out right after a nap or before you play with
her. Your puppy needs to pee or poop in those situations.

6. Just like you would do with your kids (and yourself
probably!), stop giving water to your puppy a few hours before
sleep time. This is a great way to avoid night pee, but cannot be
applied if it is very hot in your area and your dog might get
dehydrated. If it is the case, leave water all night round.

7. If your puppy poop or pee in the right spot, tell her! Use
your happy voice, your puppy will know she did it right and will
want to do it right the next time. :)

There are books on potty training at the local book stores. When you have a puppy it takes constant training not yelling or spanking but positive training to get them potty trained. Patience, praise and practice. They must be taken out several time a day and night. They will learn if you are consistent with their training. Carry them out, when they do their business, praise them. There will be times when you just took them out and they will try and go again. Find a common word for them like "Outside" then take them out and once they do either one, praise them. Repeat and repeat again. It gets awful tiring doing this day and night but they will learn and then you got it made. Good Luck.

Whenever the puppy goes on the floor, stick his/her nose up to the mess and tap the puppy on the nose with a rolled up newspaper. After that you should take the mess to the appropriate potty area and show the puppy the area to potty. You must be consistent and always use the same potty area. You do not have to hit the puppy hard, tapping a puupy's nose is very annoying to them.

I prefer crate training, they won't pee in their "home". Also...make sure you take them immediately outside after they come out of their crate. They should go outside at least eight to ten times a day when potty training and always praise and give a treat when they go potty outside. If they have an accident inside, DO NOT HIT them, but tell them NO!

right after the boxer does its bussiness(pee, poop) rub its nose to it (they'll hate it). Also each day have a set schedule to potty train for about 2 weeks...for example...u can choose in the morining, @ 3 pm, and @ 6 pm, and each time go outside with your boxer so it can get use to go outside to pee or poop. Then the dog will get use to it and scrape your door to let you know, they have to go!!

There's a spray that you can buy; it comes in an aerosol can, and if you spray it on the paper or wherever you want the dog to "go", they'll smell it and for some reason the chemicals in there "inspire" the dog to "go".

put the newspaper somewhere close to his bowl....puppies poop and pee soon after they eat....if he pees somewhere else take the newspaper and dip it in his pee so the smell gets on it...put the newspaper back where it should be and take your puppy to the spot he peed, put his nose close to the pee or poop and tell him with a determined tone NO...and take him onto the newspaper and make him smell it....also...you need to watch him everytime after he is done eating and you will see when he will act like he is about to go...immediately take him and put him on the newpaper he will start smelling around...when he goes on the newspaper give him a treat....if you find a pee or poop like from hours ago, dont bother getting angry at him, they just dont see it like we do....he wont understand why you are yelling at him...it has to be right on the spot...it sounds confusing but the dogs get it really fast you will be surprised
