Got my tongue pierced 2 weeks ago....have had this green film on my tongue since I started using the mouthwash regularly. I was told not to use Listerine as it could slow the healing process but use like Crest alcohol free mouthwash. It is the blue color but could this be causing the green crap on my tongue. It is healing nicely, just my tongue feels like a carpet and I have brushed it.

OK, doing more research....found out that I am overusing the mouthwash. I was not told to dilute the mouthwash, so i was using too much! Now I know....I got the layer off finally and my tongue is pink again. No more mouthwash until bedtime!
Thanks for everyone's help!

If your tongue is extremely green, like an unnatural shade, it is definantly the mouthwash. If your tounge does not hurt and your breath does not smell bad, then you should be fine.

You might want to look into some other cleaning options, though. Gargling with warm sea salt water is supposedly the best and most natural way to allow piercings to heal.

YOu know they have a product called "dragin mist" for toungue rings that works way better! you can get it from the piercer and its only 7$ extra , also are you rinsing with seasalt after you eat , drink or smoke?? you dilute 1/2 tsp into water (any temp) and rinse with. use it with your mouthwash (which should only be used twice daily). happy healing!!
ALL those who think listerine , no way alcohol in it causes you skin around the piercing to dry out!!!!!!!!

Could the mouthwash be having a chemical reaction with your stud?

Maybe you should quit the mouthwash and see if the green goes away.

Yeah, I had the same problem, only mine was brown. It's just the mouth wash. After u stop using it for a day or 2, it should go away on it's own.
