WHAT IS AN EXPECTED FAMILY CONTRIBUTION AND HOW MUCH DOES THE NUMBER HAVE TO BE IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR GRANTS? MY EFC WAS 906. IS THAT GOOD OR BAD? I NEED TO UNDERSTAND THIS. IT IS ALL NEW TO ME.

The EFC is what they expect your family can contribute. The higher the number the less financial aid your receive. I was around your number and received about 1000. per semester in California while attending a junior college. The next year after a divorce, I went down to the 200 range and received about 1600. It is all in a determination that your particular school makes, because all colleges are going to vary to some extent , based on books, housing, tuition etc. and they also take into consideration if you live on or off campus or with your parents. Call your financial aid office and ask, because it is based on so many variables. Good luck.

That means that you qualify for whatever amount is needed for your particular school. But they expect your family or you to contribute $906 towards your schooling per semester. You should talk to your financial aid department at your school for additional information. If you were not eligible it would have said not eligible at the bottom of the application you submitted.

It depends on how much your school is going to cost. They would have told you if you qualified for grants. That would have been in the same award letter as the EFC. You should look for other scholarships to help reduce the amount you will actually have to pay.
Good Luck.
