To me a religious nut is a person who will go out of their way to 'convert' someone who has no desire to convert. They press their ideas and beliefs on other people without considering others feelings or beliefs. They're right and you're wrong. Living out your beliefs is one thing but pressing your ideas onto someone else because you think your way is the only way equals nut to me. I personally am not religious. I have no problem with religious people. Invite me to church, offer me a copy of the New Testament. I don't mind, but the second they pull a 'You're going to Hell because of your beliefs, tattoos, piercings etc....Repent and Jesus will forgive you.' I get a little testy. This is a bit of a tangent, but I've noticed that only Christians will do this. I've never been approached by a Muslim, Jew or Buddhist and been harassed...

This is a hard question to answer for several reasons. The first is that the term 'religious nut' is extremely relative and not really a mainstream term as, say, fundamentalist.
That said a 'nut' could perhaps best be defined as someone who is closed minded enough to insist that their way is the only proper way and insist on announcing this belief to the world without asking if anyone is interested first.

A religious nut will if he or she can talk your ear off. You can tell them you have other things to do and start to leave but they won't let you get far. You may tell them No! you don't have the time to listen to their long draw of speech but they will not take NO for an answer.
A Jesus Freak would be someone who is an authority on the subject of religion but doesn't try to cram it down you. If you have a question they have the answer.

"If someone loves God and leads a lifestyle consistent with their beliefs is that a religious nut?"
No. I think the only "nuts" are those whose life is only about their religion, never about anything else, constantly talk about it and they are adamant that everyone else MUST listen to them and convert.
Also:
"What about the aspect of sharing? If I lost 50 pounds and people ask me how I did it, I'll tell them about my plan or pill or the gym I go to and no one thinks I'm a weight loss nut."
That is the difference, they ASKED you for the info.

As a believer of God's word..........We should never try to challenge someone Else's belief in what they believe. I do believe how we live our lives will ultimately be an example to who we are in contact with on daily basis-trying to convince people, making them have the same belief as what you believe-is like beating your head against a brick wall-Jesus wasn't a Freak-He is the Savior-Actually you can be religious about a lot of things.too much of anything is not good-But Being a Nut as you say some will say-Because you Love God-I'd rather be a Freak for Jesus than a Freak for Man!!! And loving Jesus is not nutty at all!!
Allow your lifestyle be a testimony who you are-

You really can't worry about that line wherever it is because the truth is that no matter what you do or don't do or how mellow you are, someone somewhere might still be offended and call you names. You answer directly to God for your behavior and need to seek only His approval.
I simply ask God for wisdom in what to say or not say to someone. I ask Him to give me clear opportunities to share my faith in a way that will be pleasing to Him. I pay attention to the way people respond and I treat them with kindness, consideration, and respect. If someone is not open to spiritual things, I recognize that and look for those who are.
Jesus offered salvation to everyone, but He invested His time and energy in those people who were open and seeking--not in those who were resistant. I try to follow that example, and since I truly believe that God prefers "spiritual fruit" to "religious nuts" anyway, I do my best to grow in the fruit of the spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, self-control . . . these are the things that soften the hearts of people over time.

People view those who have a strong basis for their faith as religious "nuts." I think because those individuals don't feel religious about matters they think that those who do are weird or something. Stick with your belief and faith in what you learn from the Bible. Don't let others sway you with doctrines and traditions of men. Who cares if they call you a "nut." At least you will know you are doing the right thing in God's eyes.

Good question.
Religious ritual that saturates every portion of a persons life creates brainwashed followers of "nuts". Islam is of course the primary example, where every moment of Muslims lives is saturated with Islamic ritual. Everyday Muslims must be aware of when their next required pray time is, in all, 5 times daily.
This is why Islam has more nuts than any other, its the complete satururation gimmickery.

In my opinion, a religious nut is someone who is not sensitive to the beliefs of those who don't share the same viewpoint. I am a Christian who tries not to cram religion down people's throats. If someone wants to know the source of my joy and happiness, then I will share my faith in the Lord Jesus Christ with them. But if they do not broach the subject I do not "dump" on them.
Hope that helps, my sister!
