Why do so many people believe in the bible even though it was written by man? I get that "god" told them what to write but it was still written by man. And we all know man(as in mankind) has a way of putting their own perspective on things...

And don't you dare call me ignorant...I'm just asking a question.

This is a good question. Looking at the Bible from a non religious perspective is a good place to start. There are many books in the Bible. You could say that the Bible is a collection of books by different authors. And you are right, that when man writes, he puts his slant or perspective on his works. However, that does not change the content of his book, if this content is being given to him by a higher authority. In this case God. The amazing thing is that all these books are tied together, over and over, like they were written by one man, but they were not. The Bible is the Word of God, written in a way that we, his children can understand it. In it is the story of mankind, and most importantly, the Plan of mankinds salvation, thru the Son of God. I am not a bible scholar, but I do appreciate your question, and your curiosity. Please read more on the Bible, it's teachings, and Gods will for us. If you do not have a friend or a relative that can answer your questions, try a course in Bible Theology, or a class available through a local church. I am an avid reader, and have been since I was 5 years old, and the book, "Black Beauty" caught my attention. I have read many, many books both fiction and non fiction, science fiction, historical novels, ext. I always knew what was real, and what was not. Never in my life did I doubt that the Bible was the word of God. Good Luck. Oh by the way, no question is ignorant, and anyone who would dare call you this for asking any question, is to be pitied.

Why do you believe in a news paper, encyclopedia etc.? they are all written by men. The reason a lot of people trust in the Bible is because the important things written in it resonate with a deep part of our conscious being. Because it deals mostly with man's soul. So if you believe you have a soul, you'll discover that it speaks to that. All of mankind no matter where he is from, has had in his psyche an impression which yields a curiosity about the existence of something mysterious and grand which has a will, which is pure and beyond the bounds of our human limited understanding.
There has never been in History any other book specifiably written which addresses this phenomena, except the Bible.

I have pondered this many times. Man definately has their own perspective on things. Every time I read the Bible I interpret it a different way. However, when the Bible was written God filled these people with so much insight that it was coming directly from Himself. As the Bible was being written God placed direct thoughts in the minds of the men and women writing it. --- this was an excellent question

I believe that the Bible was inspired by God and that the men chosen by God wrote it down faithfully and truthfully. I also believe that God has protected His word through time to preserve the truth contained therein.

I consider the Bible to be authoritative; it has authority in my life. Just as the civil laws are authoritative, even though they also are written by men and questionably with the influence of God in all cases.

I believe in the Bible because I have studied it, and prayed about it, and have no doubt that I have received answers in regards to those prayers that confirm that the Bible is true.

This is a good question, although some may not see it that way. We all need to consider why we believe this or that to be true and/or real. Keep questioning, look with an open mind and heart, and the truth will be found.

Your not ignorant, you have it exactly right.

All religion is man made it all makes the same claim that it comes from God. This claim is partially true but people can never stand to leave Gods word alone. This is because god’s word is consistent and does not mesh well with their personal preconceptions and bigoted ideas. So they make little changes here and there injecting their thoughts into the mix tainting the word with nonsense. For this reason you should not put much faith in these ideas about god that come from others. If God wants to tell you something He is perfectly capable of telling you directly.

Maybe you should stop reading what other people say about God and ask him to tell you what he wants you to do directly. Stop reading; clear you mind and listen. When you pray get you’re talking over as soon as possible and listen. He is trying to talk to you but your mind is full of nonsense from the bible and other sources. Don’t be surprised if what you hear does not sound much like what you have been told about God. You will be hearing Gods message minus the nonsense.

In your bible study have you ever heard of the small still voice? You can't hear it if your mind is otherwise occupied with other people’s silly ideas about God. Just try it you will be surprised

Love and blessings

You say that you "get that 'god' told them what to write". And this is a generally accepted idea among Western Christians, especially Protestants. But this is really a misconception. God did not give "dictation" and just tell people what to write. The people who wrote the Bible were righteous and god-bearing people - men and women - who not only believed in God deeply, but also lived godly, holy lives.

Of course what they wrote was put in their own perspective, in the perspective of the time and culture in which they lived, etc. - but this is to be expected, because they were human beings living in a world of people. And by the way, God's message to mankind as delivered through these people and through the books they left behind (the Bible) is meant to reach human beings living in a world of people - so there is nothing wrong with that.

The point is, just because these things were written by people who had their own perspective does not mean that they should not be believed. There are a couple of reasons for that:

1) The writers were not just "ordinary" people with today's values - so you cannot compare them to the people you see around you and say, "why should I believe them?" They were spiritually-minded, god-bearing people who had the Holy Spirit dwelling in them and who were putting their own egos, their own wills aside and living for God. Therefore the vision of God and His message was very clear to them.

2) Human beings are not all that different in terms of the things that really drive our thoughts and feelings etc. So even if there are big differences in culture or generation or whatever, there are no differences in the things that pertain to the healing and salvation of our souls. So the "perspective" of the writers of the Bible is still a valid one for all mankind living at any time in this world of ours.

These are hard things to discuss in just a couple of paragraphs, but I hope this helps.

I think it's a very good question because I've asked it myself. I believe in God, not people's perspectives on God. There's a huge difference. There are many stories that have been censored from the Bible... If they're all agreeable because they were inspired by God, then why censor them? I love the idea that some people need a reminder of some sort to be good people, but for those of us who are innately good - they come across more as beautiful stories. Btw, yes, I've read it several times, but the God that I believe in isn't bipolar.

You are right when you say that man puts his own perspective or point of view on things. However, you are also right when you said God Told the people who wrote the Bible what to write.

When journalists are writing for a newspaper, they are putting things down from their own perspective. Nonetheless, they are also writing what they are either a)witnessing what is happening, or b)what other people are telling them.

So it is with the Bible: the men who wrote it wrote what they witnessed God Had Done or Said to them.

I think because of it's incredible journey through time and to be tested for connection...Connection like where in Isaiah 53 everything he prophesies about Jesus is recorded about his life and death in a book written like 1500 years later in Matthew. It is a matter of faith for sure, but I would rather believe and be wrong, than not believe and be wrong!
Also, the bible is the only book on faith that the redeeming one to be followed ever claimed to be the son of God or rose from the dead. There is proof that he lived, so each person must make a choice, either he was a loonie or he was what he said he was.
. I know there are people who think they can prove it right and those who think they can prove it wrong, but it is a book of faith and it is a message about a creator that wants to be glorified and worshiped for his awesome design and creativity. I'm astounded each time I watch a flower unfold.

The Bible was written by many men. But it tells us those men were under the guidance of God's Holy Spirit. God could have just dropped a book down on the earth and said "This is my Bible", but he didn't. He used the various personalities, writing styles and life experiences of over forty men to convey His word to us. Using the four gospels as an example, you can see how four different points of view all come together to tell one amazing story.

And I would never think of calling you ignorant.
