My sister's husband has raised her 4yr old son since he was 9mons and now he wants to adopt him. We can't find the baby's real father and we heard that we could run an ad in the newspaper but not really sure. Any info that you know may be helpful. Thanks

You would need to consult an adoption lawyer. It depends on the state you live in. Each state has different adoption laws. Many of them do allow you to run an ad in the newspaper where you believe him to be.

You could try finding information at www.adoption.com

I think, once you have hired a laywer to start the adoption process, an ad goes in the paper for X amount of weeks, to give the biological father a chance to either contest it, claim rights to the child, to make an attempt to have the biological father get in contact. Once that is done, I believe they will start the adoption process.
